In tonight’s FBI International episode, Europol Agent Katrin Jaeger turned to Forrester for help with a case. There had been an American killer on the loose in Berlin. He was forcing men that had been a part of a program called “Indigo” to either kill themselves or risk being exposed as being part of that program.

This Indigo program was that bad. It was a Stasi program that ran in East Berlin during the Cold War. It was set up to kill any Westerner they considered a threat and it was rumored to be responsible for several atrocities back then.

Yet, this killer knew all about it. He went after Tobias Ganz who had been a part of the program only he didn’t spot Ganz turning on a recording device. Ganz had been a spy. Ganz may have been forced to kill himself, but he knew he was going to die that night when he overheard someone breaking in and so he turned on the recorder that would later tell authorities what exactly happened there. He recorded the whole interaction with his killer. And so that’s how they knew that an American was behind all of it.

The American’s voice was recorded. Forrester and his team listened to it after they landed in Berlin. They were able to use the FBI’s vast resources to later identify the Americans. His name was Paul Kennard. He was actually born in West Berlin. He lost his citizenship when he was adopted by an American.

Only he’s in the process of getting it back. He put in the paperwork to reclaim his citizenship. He had to put down an apartment for his paperwork and so that’s how they found out he was staying with a woman.

Her name is Anna Dahns. She was also German. The apartment that Paul used was in her name. She hasn’t paid rent for the past three months, but she ran the moment Smitty identified herself as Europol. Smitty had to run after her and arrest her. It turns out Anna was Paul’s sister.

They got orphaned as kids and there was only an uncle in America that was left. The uncle refused to accept both children. He took in Paul. He later died and so Paul went into the foster care system where he was abused and tossed around until he eventually aged out. And that’s when he turned to drugs.

Anna was taken in by a local German couple. She’s been in and out of trouble since she was fourteen. Anna was questioned about her brother. The authorities also had a photo of her being in the vicinity of Ganz’s home after the murder. So, they used that to force Anna to talk. She revealed that she tried to stop her brother that night. She said he wanted revenge for what happened to their dad. The Indigo program was used to assassinate their mother. It broke their father and he would later hang himself in the family home.

It was Paul who found his father. He had been six. His sister Ana had been three. They got separated and Paul now wanted revenge. He was targeting everyone that had a hand in destroying his family. Paul next went after Michael Berkoff. Berkoff had been a part of the Indigo program. Only Paul didn’t kill him. He killed Berkoff’s wife. He killed an innocent woman because she had surprised him. Paul and Anna had only found out what happened after they found a safe deposit box that their father had left for them.

Ewald Havertz had revealed everything that happened. He put it in that box and his children found it years later. Paul wanted revenge. Anna thought their finding each other again was enough. She was ready to rebuild their family. It was just Paul who couldn’t let the past go. Jaeger even understood him. She grew up in East Berlin. Her father escaped over the wall because he was afraid of getting arrested and unfortunately he left behind his family. Jaeger’s mom was arrested for being an accomplice. Jaeger got taken in by a good person who raised her to be an incredible Europol Agent.

But this case brought back horrible memories. Jaeger was doing her best to push past it when they finally got Anna to reveal she was in contact with her brother. She later called him and sadly she warned him to escape Berlin. She just didn’t warn him fast enough because they heard Paul admit he found the Director. The person responsible for their family falling apart. The FBI looked through the file that was handed over by Anna. They found out the Director was Simon Ballack. The former head of counterintelligence for West Berlin. It turns out he was a sleeper agent the whole time.

Ballack had been a friend of Paul’s father. He was the one who knew how to break Ewald by killing his wife. He was responsible for so much death and Paul tried to stop him only Ballack was waiting for him. Ballack got the drop on Paul. He had a gun to Paul’s head when the FBI came bursting in. They told Ballack they knew the truth. Ballack tried to turn the gun on himself and he lived because the gun wasn’t loaded.

Paul took full ownership of what he did and he confessed his sister had no part in the murders.

Ballack was outed as a war criminal and the fondness that Jaeger had for the man who mentored her was now buried in the past.

THE END!
