Tonight’s FBI International episode begins with a wedding, the brides father is looking for his knife, he insists on getting so she can cut into her cake, he says it is very special to him and her mother. He goes back into the house and finds the knife, he pulls it out, then there is an explosion. The father is alive in the house, there are coughs and people crying for help. He goes outside and sees his daughter, her new husband and all the guests dead.
Three months later in Rome, two men are walking down a street when they are ambushed, they try to make a run for it but there are too many of them, once gets shot dead and the other gets tapered and taken in front of the colleseum. In the background, we see the brides’ father.
The man who was taken is David LaPorta, CEO of a top industrial firm. They executed his partner Costa and took LaPorta. The FBI already ran a background check on LaPorta three days before he went missing, it was Jubal Valentine who did it.
The team heads to the colleseum to go to the crime scene. There are no witnesses and LaPorta’s phone is turned off. No ransom demand, nothing. Forrester goes to speak to LaPorta’s wife, she is upset, she can’t think of anyone who could want to harm her husband. She says that he and Costa have been best friends forever. She tells them to speak to his assistant, she knows everything that goes on with him.
Kellett and Raines meet with Sabrina, LaPorta and Costa’s assistant. She sent everyone home to be with their families, she is the only one in the office. She says the men were working in the office last night until around seven. She doesn’t know who they were meeting, but that is not unusual. She gives information about their partnership, they always didn’t see eye to eye.
About a year ago, she overheard a call, Italian officials contacted LaPorta, apparently the Taliban had discussed some plan to kidnap a structural engineer and use him to bring down buildings. LaPorta blamed Costa for getting him mixed up in it. It blew over and they joked about it afterwards.
The belief is that LaPorta was taken because he knows how to destroy the things he built.
They take a look at some survelience video, three nights in a row the same men were staking the area. They also have Valentine and Chase who show up from New York to help with the case.
Valentine says in New York, they had an undercover, agent Scola, trying to pin down a foreigner buyer, he was looking to acquire industrial explosives, the name LaPorta came up, so they think it is connected. They think it is an imminent threat and someone wants to hit New York. They believe LaPorta is being used to plan the attack. The best lead they have is the man in the video.
Valentine is frustrated, they are waiting for data on LaPorta’s phone, but Forrester tells him to chill, they work differntly here.
Chase calls New York, Scola hasn’t checked in, Castille tells her that she has to trust that he is ok.
Scola calls Chase, he’s ok, she tells him she is in Rome for the case.
The phone records are going to take a few more hours.
Forrester tells Valentine to get his coat, they are going to figure this out themselves. They are going over ever business bill from the las three months to find a pattern, Sabrina helps them. They find a pattern, a man named Dmitry Dovhal who Costa was having drinks in, he flew into a Rome a few days ago. Valentine thinks it is there guy and he set up a fake meeting with Costa, Sabrina has his address in Rome. They head there and find a door unlocked, they go upstairs, guns raised and find a tea kettle going off on the stove. Outside on the veranda they find their man, he is dead, two to the chest, there goes their lead.
Valentine believes the man is dead because of the delay in getting the phone records. Forrester tells him to calm down, this is not going to help.
Valentine wants to know everything about Dovhal, it appears he may have been a spy. Valentine calls Castile and updates her, tells her the players in this thing are from Belarus.
Further digging and they find Stanislau Lenkov, the father of the bride in Rome, he is from Belarus.
They find out about the strike on Lenkov’s family three months ago, over twenty dead. They believe it was Ukraine who strikes. Looks like Lenkov blames America, motive to strike back at America.
Forrester pushes back with local authorities and finally gets them on the same page, they give them unverified intel of where LaPorta could be, they all head there. Valentine, Forrester and the rest go inside, an call out, the find a woman and a child, a man. Valentine sees someone run and it is a boy and he has a rifle, he shoots it and but doesn’t hit anyone. It is just a family home, this was not where they were holding LaPorta.
They found Dovhal’s car nearby, but clearly it was just dumped there.
Valentine and Smitty have words about the raid, he says it was his call, it is the only lead they have. They get a cake then, another crime scene, this time at LaPorta’s office.
Sabrina is alive, she hid so she wouldn’t be killed. The men who went in there were sloppy on the computer, this works In the teams benefit, they are able to find a location where they believe LaPorta is being held but it is heavily secure.
Valentine and Smitty agree, they are going in. Valentine tells Chase she is not going in since she is pregnant, he goes, but she doesn’t listen to him and humps in the car with Forrester.
They are on site and start taking the men out who are outside the house. Inside, one by one they start taking them down with the element of surprise. They find themselves in the basement, find LaPorta, but he is dead. There are two mercenaries unaccounted for. In the crossfire of trying to take out the missing mercenaries, Chase is shot. Valentine is upon her and shouts for them to get a car so they can get her to the hospital. In the car Chase asks Valentine to promise that she is going to be ok. She passes out before they get there, but they were fast, they have her on a stretcher and bring her in.
It turns out she lost a lot of blood, they have a heartbeat for the baby but there has been a lot of trauma. Valentine stays at the hospital, while Forrester and the team search the house, the find something, some numbers and some letters written on a piece of paper.
The prognosis is not clear with Chase but she is strong, Valentine wants to stay with her. Castille calls him and says no, she needs him in New York, Forrester found a note pad in the villa with a tail number on it, the terror event is imminent. Forrester will stay with Chase until she recovers. Castille doesn’t think he should tell Scola, he is undercover and under a lot of pressure. He thinks it is wrong, she says she has no choice.
