A teenage girl met with an adult man at a hotel. Her name is Sabrina Abdirashid. She was fourteen. She also knew no good would come from meeting a man at a hotel much less a forty-three year old and she still went to that hotel because she had to. Many suspected Sabrina may have been a prostitute. Sabrina came from a family of immigrants. They were going through hard times and she could have been trying to help out. It was the only thing that made sense why Sabrina was meeting up with Hassan Jama. But her motives going to that hotel wasn’t why the FBI was involved. They were involved because a man had kidnapped Sabrina from that room as well as murder Hassan.

The natural suspect was Sabrina’s ex-boyfriend. She broke up with Derek Jackson earlier that day. Derek was so upset that he hung out with his friends afterwards and there was cameras to prove it. The FBI asked Derek why Sabrina broke up with him. He said it might have had something to do with her dad. Her dad looked down on him for being black. Sabrina and her family were also black. Only they came from Africa. They knew their roots and they looked down on Black Americans for not knowing theirs.

Derek’s family was from Alabama. They were brought to that state through slavery and that apparently meant they weren’t good enough for Sabrina. Especially as they were not Muslim. Sabrina’s father saw her kissing her boyfriend one day and he forced his daughter to end the relationship. Levan didn’t mention that last part until the FBI told him that Derek had an alibi for Sabrina’s kidnapping. He also tried to deny knowing anything about why his daughter was in a hotel room with Hassan until his son confronted him in front of the FBI.

The son revealed Sabrina wasn’t a prostitute. She was a child bride. Her parents married her to Hassan after they saw her kissing her boyfriend because they were afraid she would bring “shame” to the family and that no one else would want her once they knew the truth about the kiss. The family hadn’t told the FBI about that from the start because they didn’t want to get in trouble. It was illegal to marry someone off at fourteen. The legal age was eighteen there. Polygamy was also illegal for Hassan. Hassan already had a wife a few miles away.

Not that she knew anything about his brand new child bride.

But someone did send a photo of Sabrina tied up to her father. Levan at least reported that. He said the photo didn’t come with a ransom demand and so he didn’t know why they had taken his daughter. Except he was lying about possible motives. Levan didn’t give away Sabrina for free. He got a dowry from Hassan for her. The dowry was technically supposed to be for the bride as a way to take care of herself if something ever happened to her husband and it seems everyone was greedy for that money.

Hasan’s first wife stopped by Levan’s home. She wanted the dowry returned to her because her husband was dead and she has no way of affording their mortgage without him. She also has a young son to think about. She wanted that money because she said her son would need it. She even implied that Sabrina was at fault for Hassan’s death and how the “slut” shouldn’t be rewarded. Naturally, the family showed the widow the door. Levan refused to give up that money. He wouldn’t even listen to his own son who said the widow deserved a portion of it.

The FBI meanwhile found the man responsible for kidnapping Sabrina. His name was Osman. He was hired to kidnap her and he killed Hassan because he was trying to stop him. Osman was hired by someone at the refugee center that was supposed to be helping Sabrina’s family. That person himself was just a middle man. It was revealed that Sabrina’s mother Mariam set this whole thing in motion. The mother was trying to save her daughter from a child marriage and she was only able to afford this whole endeavor by stealing the dowry money that Hassan had given them.

Sabrina’s mom was just trying to protect her. She hadn’t wanted her life to become Sabrina’s life. Mariam didn’t know that Osman was going to go psycho. She also arranged for a photo to be sent to her husband because she wanted him to give up on their daughter and he would have done so. If only it hadn’t been for that damn dowry. Levan wanted to honor kill his daughter and take the money for himself. He convinced himself that he had to kill his daughter. That she would receive mercy in the next life if he did that.

Levan was so set on killing his own child that he killed his wife when she tried to stop him. He then hunted down and would have killed Sabrina too if it hadn’t been for the FBI. The FBI caught up to the family. They were forced to kill Levan to stop him, but they were able to fulfill Mariam’s wishes by keeping Sabrina safe. Sabrina will now go live with her brother. He wasn’t like their father. He was progressive. And he would allow Sabrina to live her life the way she sees fit.

And after his day was over, the new guy Ray was able to put the whole thing behind him and go out on a date with a beautiful woman.
