General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Tuesday, July 11, reveals that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) arrived at the Metro Court pool, where she pushed Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to tell her what happened.
Sonny confessed that Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) got hit in the back, but he explained why Curtis wasn’t the target.
Nina worried someone went after Sonny and tried to finish what they started, but Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) pointed out that she could’ve been the target instead.
When Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) called with updates from the hospital, he admitted to Sonny that the odds may be stacked against Curtis.
Sonny disconnected and filled Nina in on Curtis being rushed to surgery before Frank took her to GH.
Once Anna was alone with Sonny, she quizzed him about whether he was on someone’s hit list.
However, Sonny reminded Anna that they had a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy when it came to each other’s secrets.
Anna reflected on both their pasts leading them to this moment, she said they’d always have to watch their backs.
Sonny and Anna wound up reflecting on whether they’d do things differently if they could start the clock over.
Although Sonny remembered trying to live another life as “cowboy Mike the bartender” in Nixon Falls, he knew he couldn’t change the fact that he was Sonny Corinthos.
This was the life Sonny chose – or perhaps it chose him. Either way, Sonny insisted he was OK with it.
At the hospital, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) interrupted Esme Prince’s (Avery Pohl) tender moment with Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and sent Spencer off to be with Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) due to Curtis’ crisis.
That gave Josslyn a chance to blast Esme for her past mistakes, but Esme pointed out that she’d apologized repeatedly.
Josslyn snapped that it wasn’t good enough and still wanted Esme to pay for her crimes. Esme wondered what else she could do, so Josslyn pushed her to turn herself in.
Esme obviously wasn’t interested in doing that and assured Josslyn that her relationship with Spencer didn’t go beyond appreciating his help as Ace Cassadine’s (Jay and Joey Clay) brother.
Although Esme denied being the old version of herself, Josslyn felt she was still abrasive and asked which psycho parent she inherited that from: Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) or Heather Webber (Alley Mills).
Esme responded with a “how dare you,” but Josslyn remembered the sociopath that Esme was before she lost her memories.
Once Dex appeared, Esme told him to tell Trina that she was thinking of her. After Esme left, Josslyn said she caught a glimpse of the old Esme just now.
Dex wondered if Josslyn thought Esme was pretending to have amnesia, but Joss didn’t know. However, Josslyn was more convinced than ever that the jealous, spiteful Esme was just waiting to come out.
Meanwhile, Trina worried that Curtis might end up paralyzed, but Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) kept the focus on the doctors doing whatever they could to save his life no matter the risk.
Trina also worried she could lose Curtis so soon after finding out he was her biological father, but Portia pushed for positivity.
Spencer eventually found Trina and pulled her into a hug as they awaited news from the OR. Since Trina was terrified of losing Curtis, Spencer gave her a sweet pep talk.
In the park, Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) realized how precious life was, so they decided to take the risk and give their romance another chance.
Finn kissed Liz before asking her out on a date tomorrow, but Elizabeth suggested she could come over and cook for him instead.
Since Finn happily got on board, Liz agreed to make something that would surprise him.
At the bistro, Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett) opened up to Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) about having one kiss with Epiphany Johnson (Sonya Eddy) that would have to last forever.
Stella wondered if maybe Marshall should talk to a shrink, so he admitted he already had.
Marshall also confessed to discussing his misdiagnosis in therapy since it was almost certain that he was indeed misdiagnosed.
Once Portia called with the scoop on Curtis, Marshall and Stella rushed to GH.
Nina also showed up while Curtis was on the operating table and shared some supportive words with his concerned loved ones.
At one point, Spencer mentioned that his family donated a lot of money to the hospital and offered to get early info on how Curtis’ surgery was going.
Portia snapped that this wasn’t about Spencer’s family or his money, so he apologized. That led to Portia softening too since she knew Spencer was just trying to help.
Esme was supposed to take a ride-share home to Ace, but she couldn’t resist interrupting Spencer’s close moment with Trina.
After Esme said she was coming out of a parenting class with Spencer when Josslyn gave them the news, she added that they were both so devastated for her.
Esme asked if Spencer had a message for Ace when she got back to the apartment, so he seemed annoyed.
Spencer said to just tell his little brother that he loved him and would be home soon.
Esme would be tucking Ace in later, so she vowed to say a prayer for Curtis when she did. As Esme headed for the exit, she paused to look back at Spencer holding Trina in his arms.
General Hospital spoilers say Esme’s jealousy could create some bigger problems as this storyline moves along, so stay tuned.
