General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that the show has a real problem when it comes to Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) and what he’s been up to behind Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) back. Sonny isn’t the kind of man who tolerates betrayals, so Dex is making himself a target by secretly working for Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell).
Dex is hoping to score enough evidence through this Pikeman deal to bring Sonny down. However, we have to wonder what exactly Dex thinks will happen if he’s successful.
Sonny is a powerful man with plenty of connections and a top-notch lawyer. If Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) can’t help Sonny beat the charges, then Sonny could perhaps bribe or threaten a judge.
We’ve seen that Sonny’s willing to resort to jury tampering when the need arises, so there must be some way for Sonny to wiggle out of trouble.
Even if Sonny has to stay behind bars for a bit, he’s got people on the outside to do his dirty work for him.
All Sonny would have to do is say the word and Dex could be a dead man walking!
That’s why Dex needs a path to redemption in Sonny’s eyes – or he at least needs to give Sonny enough of a reason to keep him alive.
Maybe the road to that happening could start with Dex saving Sonny’s life first.
Michael has been clear about the outcome he’s hoping for when it comes to Sonny. We know Michael either wants Sonny in prison or forced out of the country.
Michael doesn’t want Sonny dead – and Dex presumably doesn’t either.
Sonny has young children who need their father, so Dex may keep that in mind as this storyline heats up.
Dex has dealt with his fair of survivor’s guilt due to his military experience, so he surely won’t want to stand by and face more of it.
Deep down, Dex probably has some level of fondness for Sonny after working for him this long.
If Dex lands in a scenario where he can prevent Sonny’s death, he’ll surely step up for him.
GH writers have offered some ominous hints about Pikeman and how risky it is to do business with them.
If this shipment takes a disastrous turn, Dex may leap into action and potentially even take a bullet for Sonny.
It’d be a great twist if Dex saved Sonny’s life despite his takedown efforts.
The traitor could also become a hero, so that could lead to Sonny having some complicated feelings once the betrayal news is exposed.
This might solve GH’s problem regarding Sonny’s retaliation. Sonny may spare Dex from a grim fate if Dex comes to Sonny’s rescue when it matters most.
