General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) recently answered an important question that fans have been debating for years. On Twitter, one GH viewer made a poll and asked who was Sonny’s “one true love,” so let’s talk about the options and the news of Benard’s surprising pick.
Of course, Sonny is currently in a romance with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), who definitely brings out a special side of him.
Nina seems to make Sonny more easy-going and brings a lot of joy to his life, but calling her Sonny’s true love might be a stretch.
The same goes for Kate Howard aka Connie Falconeri (Megan Ward). Sonny had deep feelings for Connie, but most fans can probably agree that Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) would be the top two contenders when it comes to Sonny’s romantic matches.
However, there’s one person who Sonny connected with on a deeper level than all those women – someone who Sonny would do anything for!
That’s why Maurice Benard went rogue and chose a name that wasn’t even on the poll.
In response to this viewer’s question, Benard replied that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) was Sonny’s true love – and we’d say he’s right about that.
Laura Wright tweeted in agreement since Sonny and Jason were quite a pair.
Sometimes platonic love can be just as powerful as romantic love – and that’s the case here.
Jason was Sonny’s closest confidant and right-hand man, so they had a strong bond that’s tough to beat.
Once Maurice Benard picked Jason and Sonny’s bromance as his top pairing, other fans had to back him up on that.
Sonny no doubt misses Jason and feels a gaping hole now that it’s no longer filled by his good friend.
Nevertheless, Sonny’s romances are a big part of the show as well, so GH fans are always going to argue over who he loves most and who he belongs with!
