General Hospital Spoilers: Monday, January 9 Recap – Willow Risks Premature Delivery – Nik Seeks Full Custody of Esme’s Baby

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Monday, January 9, reveals that Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) talked to Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) ahead of her appointment with Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) and gave him a gentle nudge to reconcile with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

Although Michael felt that the father he loved and respected never came back from Nixon Falls, Willow pushed him to have some compassion for the sake of the Sonny he once knew.

At Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) apartment, she was sorting through Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) box of belongings when Ava Jerome (Maura West) arrived.

Nina opened up to Ava about Britt’s Huntington’s disease and got some comfort before the conversation shifted to Esme Prince’s (Avery Pohl) capture.

When Ava admitted Esme was carrying Nikolas Cassadine’s (Marcus Coloma) baby, Nina gaped in shock. Ava insisted the divorce was moving forward and vowed to take Wyndemere away from Nikolas with all her leverage.

Although Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) tried to stop Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) from questioning Esme, Terry insisted they could go in her room at GH.

Esme couldn’t remember anything despite Dante and Jordan’s attempt to jog her memory about the crimes she’d been accused of.

After Dante and Jordan left, Martin revealed his strategy to get Esme off the hook.

Oz Haggerty (Max Faugno) was dead, so Martin acted like his word wouldn’t matter much in the case of the steamy video phone drama.

Martin also thought Esme’s pregnancy cast doubt on whether she’d even be capable of the attacks in her condition.

If Martin could establish an alibi, he felt maybe he could persuade the PCPD not to charge Esme.

The best thing they could do was figure out where Esme had been hiding out before the cops did.

Back with Dante, he didn’t believe Esme was “The Hook.”

Although Jordan felt it was too soon to rule Esme out as a suspect, Dante didn’t think it was realistic for pregnant Esme to take down that burly exotic animal supplier and jump out a window.

Plus, Britt didn’t mention anything about her attacker being pregnant, which was something an OB-GYN would’ve probably noticed.

Dante thought the best way to eliminate Esme as a suspect might be to figure out where she’d been hiding.

Meanwhile, Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) found Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and suggested Esme being pregnant with Nik’s baby must be hard since Liz just miscarried.

Elizabeth acted like Finn didn’t have to pretend he cared, but he assured her that he genuinely did.

Liz seemed like she was about to confess something, but Dante and Jordan interrupted since they needed Liz’s statement.

However, Elizabeth didn’t know if Esme was pregnant during her attack on the pier since it was dark and happened so fast.

When Finn realized Dante and Jordan were trying to learn where Esme might’ve been hiding out, he suggested they should try Wyndemere.

That left Elizabeth nervous since Jordan and Dante thought it was worth checking the place out again.

At Kelly’s, Nikolas met with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), who was horrified to learn he got Esme pregnant.

Although Nikolas wanted legal advice on getting full custody, Alexis refused to help another Cassadine keep a baby away from his or her mother.

Furthermore, Alexis acted like Nikolas was giving up on Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and throwing all his support into this do-over child.

Nikolas pointed out there was nothing he could do about Spencer right now, so he had to do everything he could to protect his unborn baby from Esme.

In the end, Alexis agreed to find another attorney who could handle difficult custody cases, but she pushed Nik to not give up on Spencer in return.

At Wyndemere, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) came with Spencer to collect his things.

Spencer informed Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) that he couldn’t stay in the same house with Nikolas anymore, especially now that he knew Esme was carrying Nik’s baby.

Victor understood and allowed Spencer to gather his stuff since his conditional release period was over.

While Spencer was upstairs, Victor sought Sonny’s help in influencing Spencer to repair his relationship with Nikolas.

Sonny wasn’t interested and eventually left with Spencer, who mentioned the north tower was open again on his way out.

A little later, Victor confronted Nikolas with a burnt half of an ornament that he found and clearly expected some north tower answers.

Once Sonny dropped Spencer off at his penthouse, he headed to Nina’s apartment and was pleased to hear about Ava going after Wyndemere.

After Ava left, Nina went to grab some hot cider from the kitchen while Sonny discovered Willow Tait’s (Katelyn MacMullen) medical file from Britt’s box.

Sonny was pensive as Nina came back and wondered if everything was all right.

In Terry’s office at GH, she gave Willow and Michael updates on some recent bloodwork.

Unfortunately, Willow’s numbers weren’t where Terry wanted them to be, which meant the chemo hadn’t worked as well as they’d hoped.

The baby was thankfully healthy and strong, which was good since Terry said they’d all have to be for what came next.

Terry admitted her preference was for Willow to deliver the baby before her bone marrow donor procedure.

As soon as the premature delivery was done, they could move forward with the next step.

Willow wasn’t sure she could go through with giving birth early and worried about the potential complications, but Michael gave her a private pep talk.

Sadly, Terry came back with bad news since the bone marrow donor’s doctor didn’t clear her for the procedure.

There was speculation about the donor having a medical condition that perhaps she didn’t know about before she entered the registry.

Terry assured Willow that they would look for another match and consider other treatments – anything to give them time to find a new donor.

Michael offered his own resources and assured Willow that they were still in this fight.

General Hospital spoilers indicate that Willow’s battle just got tougher, but there’s light at the end of this tunnel!
