General Hospital (GH) spoilers hint that fans should brace themselves for a major comeback. While nothing has been confirmed, the show has been very slow when it comes to the storyline involving Nikolas Cassadine, more recently played by Adam Huss. Could the soap be biding its time for the OG Nikolas, Tyler Christopher, to return?
While there have been a ton of Nikolas recasts over the years, most fans would agree that Tyler made the best one. After all, there’s nothing like the original! Tyler entered the role in 1996 as a teenager, growing and evolving with the character over time.
The last time he was in the role was in June 2016, and the actor left the show due to stale contract negotiations. In August 2017, he popped up on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), as Stefan DiMera.
After Tyler’s departure, actor Nick Stabile stepped into the character, temporarily for two months, and then Nikolas was written out of storylines.
Marcus Coloma was recast from 2019 to early 2023, allowing his contract to expire, and according to Deadline, he left the set abruptly due to “COVID exposure and health issues”.
This is when Adam Huss stepped in, temporarily, to wrap up the final scenes for Nikolas that Coloma was unable to do.
Of course, in February 2023, the thought was that Nikolas was dead thanks to a knockout from Ava Jerome (Maura West); however, within a month’s time, viewers saw that he was very much alive, hooked up to a life support machine, thanks to Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey).
The storytelling has been incredible within this arc as audiences wait on the edge of their seats for Nikolas to finally reveal himself to Ava, as she, and now Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) believes he’s dead.
But is this slower storytelling a way to entice fans to tune in or is there a reason behind it? While Adam Huss has done a phenomenal job, it still feels as if he’s a placeholder in the role; someone to help move along the storyline, but not a permanent fixture in the land of Port Charles.
Still, Tyler has had a rough go lately. He was arrested in late May for public intoxication when he fell asleep at an American Airlines terminal in Burbank, seemingly missing his flight.
Still, for any fan who follows him on social media, it’s clear he is trying to work on himself. He and fellow GHer, Maurice Benard posted a video on Instagram in the summer, as they engaged in some goat therapy at a farm.
Tyler has also shared his guardianship story with the public, talking about how his sister, Susan Amos Baker, allegedly misused his finances while she was his guardian, and he was in rehab in 2020.
With Nikolas once again “out of the picture” tying up loose ends for his big “Port Charles” reveal, fans can’t help but wonder if this is a way for show producers to “buy time” with this storyline so when Nikolas does come back, he comes back for good, with a more “permanent” actor in the legacy character’s shoes?
Could Adam Huss’s quick entry and exit on the show indicate that actor Tyler Christopher will once again reprise his iconic GH role?
GH spoilers note to “expected the unexpected”. So, fans will have to keep tuning into the ABC soap to find out.
