General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that the show is moving forward with plans to honor Sonya Eddy’s (Epiphany Johnson) memory following her sudden, tragic death in December 2022. A special episode is coming up, so let’s talk about that news and everything we know so far.
On Instagram, Drew Cheetwood (Milo Giambetti) confirmed that he’d be part of this tribute and talked about how difficult it was to shoot.
Sonya Eddy clearly meant a lot to the cast, crew as well as the fans who enjoyed her work.
“Yesterday’s episode was a tough one to film,” Cheetwood said in his post on February 15. “We lost an amazing human being in December unexpectedly.
Sonya Eddy lit this world up with an incredible light. She was so many beautiful things to so many people. We’ll miss her greatly.”
Cheetwood previously worked with Eddy when their GH characters were romantically involved.
Milo is Epiphany’s former flame, so it’s good that the show reached out to Cheetwood and got him on board with reprising his role.
Since Drew Cheetwood was asked to help pay tribute to Eddy, he was more than willing to do that. “After all the show has given me, it was such an honor to give back in this way,” Cheetwood said.
Some fans were rooting for Epiphany to get a happy sendoff despite the real-life tragedy.
Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett) mentioned that Epiphany was off looking into medical schools on the West Coast, so that led to some speculation about how she might be written out.
Although it’d be nice to let Epiphany’s character live on with an offscreen exit, that wouldn’t really allow for the proper tribute that Sonya Eddy deserves.
Considering they brought Drew Cheetwood and perhaps some other familiar faces back, this seems like a bigger deal than Epiphany just leaving town.
Cheetwood’s comments about it being so difficult to film back up that idea.
It certainly sounds like more of a funeral situation, which should provide more closure – even if it’s a sad ending.
As for when Sonya Eddy’s tribute episode will air, you can expect this final sendoff on March 29.
That’ll be the start of some special programming as GH celebrates its 60th anniversary.
