General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Tuesday, January 3, reveals that Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) got a notification on her phone about her departure as she stood with her suitcase. In just 10 minutes, Britt insisted she would say goodbye to Port Charles – and she later heard her boat roll in.
On The Haunted Star, almost everyone had cleared out to another pier to watch the fireworks.
Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) questioned why Britt wanted to skip out early, but Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) stayed tight-lipped about her daughter’s real reasons.
Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) showed up extremely late and realized she’d missed the whole party.
After Carly took off, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) also showed up late and left Liesl a bit suspicious along with Maxie.
However, Drew insisted he hadn’t seen Carly and had been stuck working.
After Drew talked about the crucial difference Britt made on Cassadine Island, he suggested Liesl had to be proud to have raised such a brave and gallant lady.
On the deck, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) and Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) were confident that all their PDA would get people talking about their couple status.
Spencer felt the person who they really needed to convince was Esme Prince (Avery Pohl).
Talk turned to Britt and how Spencer was glad she never made it to the altar with Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma).
It would’ve hurt too much when Britt and Nikolas inevitably broke up.
Trina realized Spencer never expected anything good to last, but she still thought he could find something to hold onto.
Spencer leaned in for a kiss with Trina, but they both stopped short when they heard a noise behind them.
Once Trina and Spencer turned to look, they saw a wet and shivering Esme staring at them.
Esme collapsed before Spencer rushed to her side and confirmed she was still breathing – though he mentioned her blue lips and feared she might have hypothermia.
Trina also exclaimed that Esme was pregnant before Spencer tried to pick Esme up so they could take her to GH.
After receiving Drew’s updates via text, Carly met with him on the pier for a New Year’s Eve kiss and celebration.
Drew reflected on his turning point with Carly on the bridge last year and still saw a positive future when he looked in Carly’s eyes now.
Carly also praised Drew for helping her find happiness again before they made a resolution to celebrate somewhere private and warm soon.
Drew and Carly finished off their New Year’s Eve with a Champagne toast as well as a kiss.
At Wyndemere, Nikolas filled Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) in on Esme hurling herself off the turret following the fire, so Liz worried she couldn’t survive that fall while pregnant in the freezing harbor.
Although Liz feared they had pushed Esme to the brink, Nikolas insisted their crimes didn’t matter since no one was going to find out about any of this.
Elizabeth eventually got a phone call from Spencer, who thought she should know that Esme had been found and was being treated at the hospital.
Spencer assured Liz that the police were on their way.
At Kelly’s, Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) walked by Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) table, so Dante offered another chance for Dex to change his story about what happened in the freezer.
Dex declined and left without the hot chocolate he came in for.
Once they were alone, Sam asked Dante if he was trying to build a case against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Dante admitted he was struggling with the idea of what justice looked like when applied to Sonny, but Sam didn’t think he was dishonoring his badge by loving his father.
Once Dante got a work call, he headed off to deal with it.
After Maxie and Liesl had a heartfelt conversation about Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) and Britt, Maxie caught up with Sam at Kelly’s and realized Dante had been summoned for a case.
Over with Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), she twisted her ankle trying to get away from “The Hook.”
That put Josslyn at a disadvantage as she tried to fight the armed villain off.
Josslyn called for help and eventually took a punch to the gut before falling to the ground.
Suddenly, Britt appeared and attacked “The Hook” to prevent Josslyn from getting stabbed.
“Back off, bitch!” Britt yelled before an intense struggle with “The Hook,” which ripped the bag she held up.
The hook also seemed to graze Britt at one point, which became important by the end of the episode!
Until then, “The Hook” managed to pin Britt and was ready to strike until Dex fired a shot. That sent “The Hook” fleeing, so Britt was grateful – though she was also frustrated that Dex hadn’t taken the killer out entirely.
Josslyn thanked Britt for saving her life, but Britt felt they both would’ve been toast without Dex coming to their rescue.
Although Britt was ready to call the cops, Dex warned her not so fast.
Britt was alone when the police showed up to grill her, so she left Dex out of the story and claimed the young woman she helped disappeared along with “The Hook.”
Josslyn wound up back at Dex’s apartment, where she had scotch for the first time and praised him for saving her life as well as Britt’s.
Although Josslyn was upset about Dex having Britt cover for them, he didn’t want Sonny’s gun tied to any of this.
Dex and Josslyn shared a close moment that erupted into passion, so they made out as the clothes started coming off for a sofa hookup.
Back at GH, Spencer assured Trina that Esme’s baby wasn’t his.
Dante questioned Trina and Spencer about what went down with Esme right as Liz and Nikolas appeared.
While Dante headed in Esme’s room, Spencer got in Nikolas’ face and suspected he had an ulterior motive for being there.
Esme was being treated for hypothermia and had no other signs of serious injuries.
Dante checked out the bag of everything Esme had on her when she was admitted, which included a Christmas ornament.
Once Esme woke up, Dante was ready to ask questions.
On The Haunted Star, Britt found Liesl and revealed the news that she’d decided to stay in Port Charles after all.
Unfortunately, Britt grew weak as they shared a toast and took off her coat to reveal a small scratch from her hook encounter.
As Britt collapsed due to the venom, a confused Liesl became terrified for her daughter.
Finally, “The Hook” scrambled following the shooting, which left her with a bullet wound to the wrist.
As the mask came off, “The Hook” was revealed to be Heather Webber (Alley Mills)!
