Tonight’s episode begin with some biker gang targeted a young couple. They killed the guy and they took the woman hostage. The woman is Janelle Carver. She was the daughter of a notorious biker. Her father David Carver ran his own biker gang and so it looks like Janelle was taken as payback. But Detective Stabler knew David. They served in the Marines together. They were once friends. David saved Stabler’s life overseas and then they came stateside. They both left the Marines. They lost contact. Stabler became a cop and David became a gangster.

Stabler hasn’t seen David in twenty-five years only he wanted to handle the notification personally. He thought the news would be better coming from him. Stabler at least knew Janelle. He knew her as a kid back when he was serving with her father. He also handled family notification because he knew he was the only person that could get close enough to David to actually break the news. David was the leader of the Son of Sin Motorcycle Club. He runs guns and drugs for the cartel. He wasn’t just going to let any cop walk into his territory unscathed.

Stabler found himself hassled when he went to the clubhouse. He only got David’s attention because it was him and David still had a lot of respect for him. Not that that granted a private audience. David hadn’t seen Stabler in a long time and so he only went to a private area with him after Stabler showed him Janelle’s ID. David realized something happened to his daughter. He went off to the side with Stabler and Stabler broke the bad news. Stabler told him that Janelle had been taken. That her fiancé had been murdered. And that it looks like the Cursed Crew did this.

David had cheated those guys out of a major deal with the cartel. Someone by the name of Grimes thought that if they took Janelle that David would suddenly be willing to give them anything and everything they ever wanted. He failed to take into account that David has been around a lot longer than him. David started grabbing Grimes’s men off the street. He tortured them for information. He wanted his daughter back. He just wasn’t going to give Grimes what he wanted in exchange for getting his daughter back.

Grimes took Janelle because he wants David’s gun supplier. Except he wasn’t really a supplier. He was a weapons manufacturer. David knew a guy who could make the perfect 3D printed ghost gun. Completely untraceable. Grimes wanted the contact’s information because he wanted to hand over a bunch of untraceable guns to the cartel he was working with. They apparently had a kill list of federal agents. They wanted to kill off everyone on the list and some of them were Marines. David couldn’t sign off on killing his fellow Marine.

Say what you want about him, but David would never break that code. He pulled out of his deal with Grimes after he found out what the guns were for and that angered Grimes because he couldn’t find a contact as good as that. Grimes’s only way to get that man’s information was by forcing David to give it to him. Which was why he took the man’s daughter. Grimes was hoping that would get him the guns and David wasn’t playing ball. David was out torturing random men in Grimes’s crew in the hopes that one of them would know where his daughter was being held.

David was eventually caught committing several felonies. Stabler used that to pressure him into telling the full truth about why Janelle was taken and then Stabler and his squad took over from there. They used the lead that David gave them to track down the gun manufacturer. They arrested him. They put him out of business. They also had Stabler dress as one of David’s bikers to go make a deal with Grimes. Grimes got into a little trouble with Los Torros after he failed to deliver the guns on time. And he now wanted to make up for that by having the manufacturer in his pocket.

Grimes said he wanted two hundred ghost guns as well as the manufacturer delivered to him. Stabler tried to reason with the guy by saying they never met the manufacturer in person. But Grimes didn’t care. He wanted the guy because he never wanted to go begging to David again. So, the cops had Jamie dress up as the gun manufacturer. They went to the tradeoff. Everything was going smoothly until a third car arrived. The cartel wanted the manufacturer for themselves and one of David’s men had betrayed them.

Things quickly devolved into a shootout. Many died. Grimes got away with Janelle as his hostage and they had to race on after him to keep eyes on Janelle. They later cornered Grimes. They got Janelle out of his car, but Grimes was going away for murder and kidnapping.

And David will also serve time. Not that it ultimately mattered to him because he was just glad that his daughter was now safe and that Stabler was going to look in on her from time to time. And it helps that Stabler promised to talk him up when he gets his next parole hearing.

The End
