On tonight’s #MagnumPI, the private investigators went back to college for their latest case tonight. The Dean of the University of Hawaii contacted them because she needed them to investigate a professor. Professor Sam Brody was a rock star on campus. He was young. He was handsome.

He also could be charming and that’s helped with donations and donors. Only none of that matters if he did what he’s accused of. Dean Owana was given an anonymous complaint about the professor. This person claims that the professor was coercing students into sexual favors for lucrative research internships. And that he was currently using one of the students for such favor.

There was just one issue with that. The anonymous complaint seems dismissive of this potential victim. She or he wrote that no one deserves to be abused by someone powerful enough to destroy their careers. They said it as “not even the girl”. Like they didn’t really like this person.

They wanted to dehumanize them even as they supposedly wrote the complaint to protect people like her. Magnum suspected the person who wrote the complaint was a scorned woman. Someone that might be jealous of losing the professor to a younger model and is lashing out.

Higgins on the other hand was more concerned with the professor’s firewall. She tried to remotely hack his work computer. His firewall was so strong that she was forced to abandon the issue and so she wanted to know what he was trying to hide away from prying eyes. Professor Brody has a strict no phones in class policy.

Higgins attended one of his classes while Magnum broke into Brody’s office. It took him a good minute to forge the professor’s fingerprints. Once that was done, he then used it to unlock the phone and load spyware.

It unfortunately took forever. It was taking so long that the professor wrapped up a class. He headed back and Higgins didn’t stop him. She hadn’t used her cell during class. Higgins also was a little busy proving a point about food scarcity that ended up leading her to someone she suspected left the complaint.

She suspected it was a young man named Travis. Travis was quite outspoken in class. Then Higgins made a point and he didn’t rebut it. He later told her that there was no point. The professor played favorites.

Usually with a pretty girl. It’s the same reason he doesn’t go after research positions. He said it will only go to another pretty girl and to one that was probably sleeping with him. Travis told Higgins that he once stopped by the professor’s office only to hear two people having sex inside. He left. He was also really bitter that his brilliance wasn’t being seen by the professor because the professor only notices women. Hence why Higgins suspected Travis wrote the complaint. She even told Magnum after he miraculously “saved” himself.

The professor did return early. Magnum hid by hanging off of a window ledge. He stayed on that ledge for about thirty seconds and then Professor Brody went to lunch. That’s how he saved himself. Later, he met up with Higgins. The two of them then spied on the professor. There was nothing incriminating they could find. They did learn that the professor was sleeping with a college student. Her name is Helen. She was in his classes. She also asked him about getting a job as his new research assistant and he told her that he couldn’t give the job to her.

Brody said that there were rumors on campus. He didn’t want to look like he was showing favoritism. He told her that she couldn’t get the job and she stormed out of his place in a huff. Higgins tried to approach her the next day on campus. She claimed she was out jogging when she noticed Helen leaving the professor’s house. She was supportive and she tried to tell Helen that if Brody hurt her that she could report it. And Helen got annoyed with her before once again walking off in a huff.

Only the private investigators kept looking into the professor. They learned that his previous research assistant had died. She killed herself. She worked for the professor for a couple of months and then she started being blackmailed. She eventually killed herself to escape the cycle. It turns out Helen was blackmailing her. Helen had dual citizenship. She was a Chinese spy. She was spying on Brody because the professor was studying deadly viruses for food sources. If China gets their hands on that, they could wipe out any rival nation’s entire food source.

By time Magnum and Higgins realized what was happening, it was too late to stop the theft. Helen had already forced the professor at gunpoint and when that didn’t work she knocked him out to use his fingerprints. She was gone by time they showed up. Magnum and Higgins then raced to catch up to her before she handed over the files. Helen didn’t try to get off the island. She instead headed toward the Chinese Consulate. Its where she could have stayed safe as well as hand off anything incriminating. They caught up with her on the road and Helen stole a motorcycle to escape through alleyways.

Higgins also stole a motorcycle to catch up to her. Higgins was able to corner her and Magnum knocked her off the bike with the car. She landed ten feet away from that consulate, but that didn’t count and so she was arrested. They also disarmed her for HPD. And later the good professor voluntarily retired with his record unblemished in spite of him actually being guilty of being a sleaze.

They had spoken to his other research assistants and he was guilty of sexual harassment.

Everyone else had all went on a camping trip. It had to come to an end early because a homeless kid stole their stuff and they didn’t have the heart to take it back. Cade also revealed to TC that he wanted to enlist in the Marines when he turns eighteen. TC was against the idea because Cade was like a son to him. He didn’t want him to be in danger. He tried to talk him out of it and Cade said he was going to do it with or without his support. And so TC eventually supported him because he didn’t want Cade to leave without knowing he was loved.

THE END!
