In tonight’s Masterchef episode, the Northeast started off tonight with the fewest competitors. They were at a disadvantage with only three people and they tried to reverse their current fortunes with tonight’s Mystery Box Challenge. Each region was given just one mystery box.
The challenge was to see if they could share this one ingredient. The ingredient being one whole chicken. Jennifer won the last challenge. She earned an advantage. She got to choose which region cooks with less minutes than everyone else. And she chose the Midwest.
The Midwest had recently helped the South win last week’s team challenge. They helped Jen earn her advantage. Only for her to turn around and use it against them. She said that they were the only other team with all five homes cooks. She was trying to get them to lose one.
They all saw what she did as a betrayal. They were fuming while they had to wait as everyone got to start cooking. Jen gave them fifty minutes to chop up and elevate chicken parts. She was even working on her own dish while the Midwest was still waiting for their turn.
Jenn planned on elevating chicken breast. She seemed to be seasoning it well. She was putting her dish together when the Midwest finally got the chance to start prepping. They were lucky when they chose Wayne to cut down the chicken. He was a pro at this.
He quickly cut the chicken up into several pieces and everyone grabbed at what they wanted before running into the pantry to grab the rest of their ingredients. Sarah was taking a big risk with her dish. She chose Chicken Roulade. She was making it on top of the stove rather than in the oven. And so the judges warned her about rest time.
Charles was also someone to watch. He took the pieces that nobody else wanted and it was using strips of that in his dish. It seemed rather risky. The judges wanted to be able to taste chicken in every dish or else the contestants failed at the challenge itself.
The judges were also worried about Jenn. They found out she was making risotto with red bell peppers and onions. She said she wanted to add a southern flare to it. The Italian in the house had said she could potentially ruin it. Its all going to depend on the taste.
Someone from Northwest also took a risk. Purvi was making Butter Chicken. She set a high bar and it has to be perfect or else she’ll find herself in the bottom three. Then time was called. Lizzie was very disappointed in her dish. She sorta ruined the side dish that she planned on and so she threw something together at the last minute and she knows it isn’t up to par. It wasn’t worthy of MasterChef. She just put it on a dish because she couldn’t leave chicken by itself.
The judges went around. They tasted the dishes. They asked leading questions and they talked amongst themselves. They decided on the best dish from each region. They named Brynn’s dish as the best of the Northeast. She made Chicken Cacciatore with Roasted Lemon Asparagus. The judges enjoyed this dish. The best dish of the South was Kendal’s. Kendal made BBQ Chicken Breast with Mashed Potatoes. His dish looked the most beautiful. His BBQ sauce tasted delicious and they told him that he could sell that in stores.
Grant was the best dish out of the Midwest. He made Chicken Marsala with White Wine Sauce and Oyster Mushrooms. His dish looked rustic and tasted great. Then there was Kennedy. Her dish was chosen as the best of the West. Kennedy went German with her dish. She made Crispy Chicken Thigh with Cabbage. The judges loved it and they appreciated the culture behind it. The judges then discussed amongst themselves. They determined that the best dish of the night went to Kennedy. She saved the West.
She saved Lizzie because Lizzie would have been in the bottom four. But now that the best is over, it was time to discuss the worst. They named Purvi’s dish as the worst of the Northeast. She made Butter Chicken with Naan. It didn’t taste like the world famous Butter Chicken. The Naan was also raw. Then the second worst dish went to Jennifer. She made Roasted Chicken Breast and a Southern Flavored Risotto. The judges said she treated her chicken like an afterthought. They were all disappointed in her dish. And her take on risotto.
The worst dish of the Midwest went to Sarah. Sarah made Chicken Roulade with Roasted Potatoes and Peppers. After that, the judges couldn’t understand why she sent them overly dried chicken. It was so bad that the judges decided to eliminate Sarah and so Jen really did cripple the Midwest. And the hits kept coming because the judges decided to eliminate a second person. They eliminated Purvi!
THE END!
