In tonight’s Masterchef episode the American version of “MasterChef” celebrated their two hundred and fiftieth episode tonight. To mark the occasion, the judges decided to celebrate with a cake challenge. They have had cakes made for each region. The contestants will have to replicate the cake and they couldn’t choose the cake themselves.

They were all assigned a cake by Kennedy. Kennedy made sure to give the West as well as Northeast the easier cakes. She wanted to eliminate someone from the South or the Midwest. Her biggest beef seemed to be with the Midwest. She assigned Wayne a nine layer cake and it’s a known fact that he wasn’t much of a baker.

Kennedy’s own team was very excited with what they had. MD got key lime pie. She makes donuts for a living and she loves making desserts in her off time. She went into this competition very secure. MD has always stayed in the middle throughout most of the competition.

She felt that tonight she would like to stand out. Jennifer thought the same. She was coming off of being in the bottom three and she thought she got lucky when she got the banana split cake. It’s something she made at home. And she needed to impress the judges after last week.

Wayne, however, was struggling. His batter wasn’t as smooth as he wanted it to be. It was coming out thick. He should have made another and he couldn’t because he was pressed for time. He instead tried to make do with what he had. He spread the thickness all over in the pan and hoped for the best.

Kennedy was watching from the balcony. She saw the thickness and she knew she most likely sunk Wayne before the judges even tasted his dessert. Not that she could get excited because Kennedy accidentally also sunk Lizzie as well.

Lizzie was struggle with the Berry Cake. She was from the West. She was taking much too long with her cake. Her saving grace was that Kendall had accidentally messed up on his cake and so the South wasn’t doing too well either. Kennedy had given the absolute hardest cakes to the Midwest.

There were a lot of people that were threatened by them. The others were constantly coming after them and it seems they struggled the most with the technical side. And it wasn’t just Wayne, Kyle also got a tough cake that he had no idea how to stack.

Kyle added cream cheese to his Lemon Cake. The cake doesn’t call for cream cheese. He just added it because he didn’t know how to make frosting by itself and so he ruined the recipe with what he did. That alone could send him home. The judges saw what he did and they remembered it when it came time for judging. He along with Wayne made crucial baking mistakes. When time was called, Kyle’s cake looked the worst. The judges went around to each station and they tasted all of the cakes that were prepared tonight.

They eventually decided to take an extra tasting from four cakes. The winning cakes from each region. They first called Brynn from the Northeast. She had Red Velvet. Her cake looked exactly like the replica. The flavor of the cake was great. The only thing it needed was a little more frosting between the layers. The next cake was from the South. They called up Kolby. Kolby made the Apple Stack Cake. It looked exactly like the replica. There were no flaws and the judges had even called it perfect. From the Midwest, they called Wayne. He had the Smith Island 9 Layer Cake.

It wasn’t as visually perfect as the original. But the judges had wanted to count the layers by actually cutting into it. They did so and there was nine layers. The taste was also there. Wayne did a great job in spite of having issues. The judges went on to call Lizzie from the West. She had the Marionberry Cake. She got all the elements in there. This was the first time that she was in the top four and, while her cake needed more refinement, the judges loved her cake. The taste was the best. It was literally the best of the evening.

The judges had a hard time determining the winner of this Cake Challenge. They eventually gave it to Kolby because he got it so right. Both with flavor as well as technical skill. Kolby saved his region and he saved Kendall in particular because Kendall is not a baker. Then came the four cakes in the bottom. Nina was called. She got the German Chocolate Cake from the Northeast. There was also only two people in the Northeast and so Nina knew she would be in the bottom. She just thought the cake’s taste would save her and it didn’t. It was too moist. The cake was falling apart in the middle. The judges said it tasted like oatmeal.

Kyle was called from the Midwest. He had the Meyer Lemon Cake. He was in the bottom three because his cake truly looked hideous and the taste wasn’t there. It tasted like a cross between cheesecake and carrot cake. It didn’t taste like a lemon cake. The worst cake from the West was MD’s. MD had the easiest cake. She had Key Lime Pie and her cake was awful. The custard barely set. Her crust was burnt. She was supposed to be known for desserts. How could she make such a costly mistake?

And so the judges deliberated. They ultimately felt Kyle’s cake was beneath him and this competition and that’s why they eliminated him tonight.

THE END!
