Tonight’s episode begins with Lucy being back! She returned early from Agent Afloat. Lucy had to cut through a lot of red tape to return a day early. She told Whistler she came back because she missed everyone and that was sweet, but no one was expecting her. They had planned a great return party for her. It was scheduled the day she was supposed to arrive and so they were doing their best to rearrange things even as Lucy became suspicious. Lucy could tell something was off. The floater that filled in for her was disappointed that he was off the new case. The others were meeting up in Tennant’s office without her.
Lucy didn’t know what they were planning. She just knew they were planning something. They were horrible at hiding the fact they arranged a party for her and so it’s a good thing a new case came around to distract everyone. They were looking into Navy Lieutenant Adrian Park. Park disappeared several years ago as he was on the fast track to a great promotion and was moving up the ranks. But there was nothing suspicious about his disappearance. There was no information that leaked. There were no risk of state secrets. He was just gone one day with warning.
Then he pops up on the island. He was seen in a video recuing a woman off a cliff and he was identified from the video of this rescue. It had gone viral. Someone recognized Adrian. They notified NCIS and NCIS went looking for the guy in Hawaii. It turns out Adrian was working at a language school on the island. He was being paid in cash. He was renting in cash. He wasn’t using his ID. He was just a living ghost. He wouldn’t even be in trouble if he hadn’t deserted his post. And desertion comes with a prison sentence.
When you’re a part of the military, you can’t decide your done and walk away. You have to give notice. You have to receive an honorable or dishonorable discharge. Then you can walk away. Adrian had skipped all of that. He just walked right off the job. He hadn’t even told his family that he was leaving and so it was up to NCIS to arrest him. They eventually tracked down Adrian. They arrested him. They also noticed that they had been followed. They thought that was weird at first and were quick to dismiss it until it happened a second time.
Tennant’s people went to go search Adrian’s home. They came across a North Korean hit squad there. They captured one and his friends killed him to keep him from talking. It was this man’s autopsy that revealed he was North Korean. Before he disappeared, Adrian was working in South Korea. They asked Adrian if he was a spy and he wasn’t. He also wasn’t living at that place alone. Adrian was living with there with his partner. His partner was Bombi Seong. She was a former North Korean spy. It was her job to act as a honeypot in order to get close enough to Adrian to manipulate him.
What no one counted on was that they would genuinely fall in love. They fell in love and they realized that they had to disappear. Bombi wouldn’t be allowed to defect from North Korea. Adrian couldn’t risk them being found and so he walked away from his dream job. He disappeared. She disappeared with him. They moved to Hawaii. They have two kids. They tried to start over and then Adrian’s cover was blown. North Korea must have seen the video after it went viral. This in turn let them know that Adrian was still alive and that he was in hiding. And so Bombi couldn’t be far off.
The hit squad began following NCIS. They tried to get close to Adrian to find out what happened to Bombi. They wanted to kill her rather than let her live out her life in peace with Adrian. Adrian told them everything after Tennant told him that the hit squad was in town. Adrian said that they went on the run because Bombi didn’t want to go jail for espionage. She just wanted to raise a family with him. He also begged Tennant not to arrest her. He said it would be cruel to drag her away from two small kids and unfortunately that wasn’t up to Tennant.
Tennant has her own boss to answer to.
Tennant also received some help from an old friend, Charlie 1. Charlie 1 was the spy that occasionally dropped in her life to help her out and he came after he heard about the hit squad being on the island. His help came in handy after the North Koreans grabbed Bombi. They were taking her away via boat. Bombi jumped. Jesse got to her in the water and Kai went after the men that tried to grab her. This was when Charlie 1 showed up with his own boat to pursue the bad guys with. And they eventually caught up to their guys and were able to make a few arrests.
Tenant also got the chance to talk to Bombi when everything was over. She told Bombi that she has something to negotiate with. She was a spy and so that meant she was privy to certain information she can now use to ensure that she stays with her family.
And Lucy pretended to be surprised at her welcome back party, but no one fell for it and they immediately knew that Whistler spill the beans.
