In tonight’s Outdaughtered episode, while Danielle was away, Adam had wanted to be the fun dad. He keeps things pretty light and easy when he’s on his own. He agreed to a yes day. He agreed to ice cream and cotton cady for dinner. Only he was more responsible now that Danielle’s back.
Adam wanted to show Danielle that he could be bad cop sometimes. She once complained about having to always be bad cop and Adam was paying attention because now he was staying on top of the girls in cleaning up after themselves. The girls are all at the age where they can load the dishwasher. Put their clothes in the hamper. And pick up their toys.
Adam was doing this because Danielle’s birthday was coming up. Her birthday tends to get ignored because it’s two days before Christmas and so he wanted to do things differently that year.
He wanted to show Danielle that he could be bad cop. He got a whistle to get the girls’ attention and then he tells about the chores that they were going to be doing from now. Adam and his wife used to fight about her having to be bad cop. She felt like she was the only one taking charge in the house and its supposed to be the two of them vs their six daughters.
Adam tried that, but he was back to giving the kids ice cream for doing their chores. It seems he too doesn’t like being bad cop. He later told the girls that they have to do something big for mommy. They were going to make her presents. Yet, the only thing that Danielle wanted was a chance to be fun mom.
She took the girls out to a painting class. They all get instructions to paint a wolf. It was so much better than when they were small and would try to eat all the paint. They now got to enjoy themselves and do something therapeutic.
Adam was off having fun with his friends. They went golfing. They also discussed that time in which Adam and Danielle were barely seeing each other or making time for each other because the kids needed them more when they were smaller. Thankfully, his kids are growing up. He can make time just for him and Danielle.
He simply had to figure out to do that in a way they would both enjoy. He later made Danielle breakfast for her birthday. Her kids arranged for a spa day with foot masks. And the spa day wasn’t very relaxing.
The girls were fighting over the face mask. On who gets to apply it. They didn’t want to rub her feet and so she had to stick with a facial massage. Then her children’s hair got in her face as they performed the facial massage. Not that it mattered to Danielle. She still loved her day. She loved how much attention her family put into celebrating her birthday.
Plus, there was more good news. They went to see a new ophthalmologist in their area. They wanted to change Hazel’s specialist because they wanted someone closer by as well as a second opinion. And they liked what they heard from the doctor.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom. There’s a chance that Hazel’s eyesight is improving. She also liked this new doctor and he was in their area. They didn’t have to drive into the city to see someone. They also know that their daughter was a lot stronger than she lets on.
They knew Hazel could do whatever she wants one day. They were looking forward to it and they were also working on having a date night. Adam thought it would be a great idea if they had a date night with just the two of them. He had high hopes for this date.
Those high hopes came crashing down during the date itself. Adam and Danielle went to a Cajun cooking class. They were originally from Louisiana and so this was them learning to cook something from back home. Only they started talking about Danielle’s exercising.
It came up during the class and she hadn’t wanted to eat it because she’s worried about fitness. Danielle misses being able to do fitness. She developed an autoimmune disease after carrying the quints. She will never be able to exercise like she did before the quints. And she didn’t want to hear from Adam that he’s sure she could still do it.
Danielle knows for a fact that it would be impossible with the inflammation and the pain she constantly feels. She was trying to accept her new fate. She just wanted Adam to do that too.
