In tonight’s Return To Amish episode, Rosanna wants to return to Amish community because she’s pregnant. She hadn’t told anyone. She felt she should tell Johnny first and she didn’t tell him until after they returned to their old community. It was apparently a sin to get pregnant before marriage. She was afraid that Johnny would leave her if he knew she was pregnant. She was afraid that his family would disapprove or put pressure on him to leave her. Only Johnny was so happy by the news. She told him and he couldn’t stop smiling.
Johnny wanted to marry her right away. They needed to get permission from the bishop to marry. They were going to seek out the man’s permission and they had to get married fast. It had to be done before she started showing because their families might get shunned if it gets out they had premarital sex. They were still discussing what to say to the Bishop as the rest of their friends were down in Florida trying out something new. The kids that were staying down there had to make a choice between going English or staying Amish. And they couldn’t make that decisions in their current clothes.
They needed to try out English clothes for once. They also got haircuts. Jeremiah took the guys out to do haircuts and Carmella and Sabrina took Fannie for a makeover. The older adults all believed that these kids needed to see as well as experience a little bit of English culture before they can make decision. Fannie had a hard time with finding English clothes to wear. She doesn’t have a defined style because she’s always worn her Amish clothes. She now has to find her style. Not that it seems to have been a problem for the guys.
Daniel was a bit goofy. He took risk with his style because he knew what he likes. Kenneth was more laidback. He went for summer clothes to wear in Florida. Fannie on the other hand was often so nervous that she turns down things down right away, but when she found something she wanted as well as something that made her feel beautiful, she couldn’t wait to buy it. They all love their clothes. They were sad that Rosanna and Johnny missed it. Only those two were struggling with a very inquisitive bishop.
The bishop asked Johnny outright if they’ve had premarital sex. The bishop had heard that they flew to Florida together. He became concerned that being so far away from their families might be tempting them to sin. He therefore asked Johnny those uncomfortable questions to find out one way or the other only Johnny didn’t want to say yes or no and so the bishop didn’t give him his permission. He told Johnnie that Rosanna wasn’t good enough for him. He didn’t care that they were in love and that even if he found out they sinned together – they were now trying to make it right with marriage.
The Bishop doubted Rosanna’s chastity. He didn’t think she was good enough for anyone now that she sinned except he didn’t say the same of Johnny. It was very much a double standard. Johnny was fine and Rosanna might find herself shunned because of this. Down in Florida, Fannie was enjoying her new makeover. She got her hair cut and styled. She felt beautiful. She looked beautiful. She didn’t have any doubts about going English and she inches closer to that decision every moment she’s down there with Sabrina and Carmela.
Sabrina also had a surprise coming in for her. Her boyfriend Scottie wanted to propose to her. He arranged a party and the kids got to wear their new English clothes to it. The clothes helped both Kenneth and Daniel realize that they’re going to stay English. They loved their clothes. They couldn’t wait to show them off. The party gave them the perfect excuse and the same went for Fannie. Fannie wore her English clothes to the party. They were all dressed to the nines. They were all there supporting each other. It was the perfect time for Scottie to drop down to one knee and propose.
And Sabrina burst into tears without saying anything.
