Tonight’s episode begins with Tan who was still serving his suspension. Street was out on personal leave. It was therefore up to the rest of Hondo’s team in SWAT to pay their dues in basic blues. They were going to be beat cops for a day. They were patrolling the streets in regular cars and in old uniforms. The uniform was hard on Powell. She transferred to the LAPD in 2020. She came in right as George Floyd’s murder had sparked worldwide protests and so she hated the way that people on the street looked at them. They looked at cops as the enemy. Powell prefers being with SWAT because they get called in when people were in trouble and were grateful for their presence.

Powell expressed to Hondo what she was feeling. She went to him because he was a black man in uniform and he knew what it was like for a minority to go from being seen as one of them to being seen as an enemy. Hondo got what she was saying. He’s been there. He also said that it was up to them to protect and serve. Its why they began cops in the first place. Hondo rode patrol with Powell. They eventually got called to a scene. There was a homicide and it was in a poor neighborhood. Because it was in a poor neighborhood, the homicide detectives were in no rush to get there.

They were working other cases. They told the patrol cops to hold the scene until one of them swings by when they get the chance. If the murder had happened in the wealthier neighborhoods, there would have been a slew of detectives quick on the scene. Powell knew this. Hondo knew this. Only Hondo told her that they had to follow the detectives’ lead. They had to hold onto the scene. They had to keep the crowd away from the body and leave that body where it fell until the detectives got there.

The murder victim was known in that neighborhood. His name was Derrick Moore. He grew up there and he was trying to make it in the music industry. He was a rapper. He was small-time when he died. Everyone was hoping that would change. Now, he’s gone. Hondo and Powell didn’t want to let this one go and so they looked into themselves as SWAT officers. They were trying to solve the crime and they weren’t the only ones who couldn’t fit into the patrol cop’s parameters. Deacon was riding with Miguel because Miguel was filling in for their missing guys. And they too investigated a case.

They investigate a snatch and grab. This young woman by the name of Becca was just walking on the street when someone snatched the necklace right off her neck. They also hit her in the face when she tried to fight back. Becca gave a description of the guy to the police when they showed. Miguel had thought she was hot and so he broke a cardinal rule. He promised to get her necklace back and to catch the guy. Cops are never supposed to promise anything. Miguel tried to claim he only did that because he has a hunch on how to find the necklace.

Miguel said that they could find the necklace by checking the local pawnshops. He became real smug too when they went to a pawn shop and they found the mugger walking out of the place. The cops told him to stop. He chose to run. Miguel ran after him. This guy got away and he had a gun with him. Miguel saw the gun. They later swung back to the pawnshop. They asked the owner if he recognized the guy that came in with a ruby necklace. The owner said the guy’s name is Zack Thompson.

Zack was in desperate need for money. He stole money from a gang known as the Olvera Street Players or OVP for short. The gang responded by kidnapping his girlfriend and they were threatening all kinds of things to her if they didn’t get their money. It turns out Zach moved to LA to make it big in Hollywood. His high school sweetheart wanted the same thing and things didn’t go to plan. Zack started stealing stuff to make ends meet. He then stole from the gang thousands of dollars because he wanted to buy his girlfriend an expensive engagement ring.

Well, his action had repercussions. He tried to get thousands of dollars by stealing again to pay for his girlfriend’s ransom and that caught the police’s attention. The police found out that Zack’s girlfriend had been taken. They tried to help him. They tracked him down when he was meeting with the OVP. They saw him pull a gun on a gangbanger and him getting shot. They called for an ambulance for Zach. They then pursued the shooters and they caught two out of the three gangbangers right away.

However, one of them mentioned the words “no body, no crime”. They were going to kill Zach’s girlfriend if the cops didn’t find her before the third guy could kill her and so the cops went looking for her. They were doing that as Tan was doing something stupid. Tan went into the office to look up Bonnie’s affair partner. He got the guy’s information. He found out he was married with kids. Tan then felt it was up to him to warn this man’s wife. He tracked her down. He approached her and he told her that he was Bonnie’s husband. And she didn’t seem surprised.

The wife knew about the affair. She even said that she has done too much to let a little b*tch like his wife win. The wife was going to fight for her man and she has every belief that she’ll quickly send Bonnie on her way. Except Luca had found out what Tan did at the office. He went to Tan’s apartment to confront him. He tried to reason with him that he should move on from Bonnie. That she and the guy were homewreckers who didn’t deserve to breathe much less waste his time on. And Luca said this in front of his patrol officer for the day, his half-sister.

The same sister he has because his dad cheated on his mom with another woman. She got offended that he thought homewreckers were scum and he told her that he was just trying to cheer up a friend. He wasn’t trying to judge her mom. They were just getting to know each other and, while they were getting over several bumps in the road, Luca wasn’t a judgmental person. He was her brother. He was glad to be getting to know her and he couldn’t wait to develop their relationship. They worked together to later catch up to the final gangbanger.

The life of Zach’s girlfriend was saved. Zach’s life was saved. Miguel ended up doing a good thing when he promised Becca he would get her necklace back. Hondo and Powel also closed their case when they realized that their murder victim was making music videos by shooting up a gun and one business owner fired back thinking he was in danger. It was self-defense. The guy wouldn’t even have needed a gun if police were actually patrolling that area like they’re supposed to. So, Hondo said he would be swinging by the neighborhood to offer as much help as he can.

And Tan later had drinks with Luca and Durant. He felt better after talking to the wife and he no longer cares what happens to Bonnie.
