In tonight’s S.W.A.T. episode, an old friend needed help. Danny Wright was Hondo’s friend. They’ve known each other since their military days and Danny wasn’t normally one to worry. Only he desperately needed help with his daughter. He couldn’t get in touch with Grace. She hasn’t called or texted in days.
He drove to LA to see her and she wasn’t at her apartment. He has no idea where she is. He just knew this wasn’t like her. He asked Hondo if he could help him look for his daughter. Hondo agreed to do it. He took time off to help Danny search and the first thing they learned was that she lied about her apartment. She lived somewhere else. And SWAT was helping Hondo until they caught a case.
SWAT became involved in a string of home invasions/robberies. There victims were all elderly. They also all lived in LA. They weren’t known as rich. They were considered to be comfortable. These people were also all grandparents. This one heist crew hit several homes in the past forty-eight hours and they didn’t seem like they were going to stop until they were stopped.
They didn’t wear masks. They shot all the witnesses. They even shot a security guard that came by after he was alerted by one of the victims’ medical alert bracelets. Him arriving so fast on the scene probably saved a grandma’s life.
SWAT went looking for this crew. There were three victims by time they caught this case. Another thing they had in common were that they all were vocal against banks. They believed in hoarding their items at home and somehow this crew found that out. They knew with one victim because he posted on social media.
The others were just known by their families to be hoarders. It was odd that they would all be hit because again they weren’t rich, but they did all have safes made by the same man.
He built them an uncrackable safe. He only took them on as clients because they were also referrals. He took them on after someone named Chauncy Telluride told him they’d be good business.
Chauncy dealt with precious metal. SWAT didn’t know what metal that was until they heard about a fourth robbery. They were faster on the scene that time and they were able to arrest someone. They also got there before the victim was murdered like the others. It turns out they stole the man’s gold coins.
The victims all had gold that they bought from Chauncy. It was supposed to be their legacy with the grandkids. Instead, it signed the death warrant of at least two of them and so SWAT finally talked to Chauncy. They thought he had been in on the theft. They were wrong about that. Chauncy would never risk his business for chump change only he knew who would. His idiot cousin, Jarvis. Jarvis had just gotten out of prison. Chauncy thought he’d help him out by getting him a job at his company. Only Jarvis didn’t last a week.
Jarvis wasn’t a firm believer in hard work. He grew bored of having to do a job. He especially grew resentful of having to witness several thousand dollars exchange hands while his cousin was getting rich. Jarvis put together a crew. He stole his cousin’s client list. They began robbing everyone on the list. Several members of the crew were later arrested. Jarvis was getting desperate and so Tan suggested he would go for the biggest client in order to finish off with a major pay day. Chauncy’s big client was worth two hundred million dollars.
This guy bought up most of Chauncy’s gold. Jarvis targeted him and so Tan was right. Which was a good thing because SWAT chose to act on his suspicions. They went to the man’s home. They found Jarvis plus one of his stooges. He had taken a hostage. He was eventually cornered and killed and his reign of terror came to an end. Only Danny was lying about Grace. Grace was fine. She was at her dad’s house on the other coast. She came running to him because her boyfriend beat her up so bad that it scared her and she wanted to feel safe.
It was Danny who couldn’t let it go. Danny wanted revenge. He then lied to Hondo so that Hondo would find Grace’s boyfriend for him and he wanted to get justice, but Hondo stopped him. Hondo reminded him that Grace still needs him. He also could have gotten the boyfriend arrested the right way if he had just been honest to Hondo about what was going on. There’s a reason why Grace never told him her boyfriend’s name. She knew he would do something stupid and she was looking out for him.
Hondo got Danny on the first flight back to the East Coast. He told him to not come back and then Hondo went home to his own baby girl. He understood why Danny did what he did, but he put both of their lives and careers at risk with his stunt. And Hondo wasn’t going to forgive that anytime soon.
