In tonight’s Sister Wives season 18 episode 1 as per the TLC synopsis, “Christine has moved to Salt Lake City, but the fallout from her divorce remains. Janelle, Meri and Robyn struggle to plan the upcoming holidays as the family continues to be divided.
Then, things get tense between Kody and Christine when they sit down for the first time since she left.”

Kody has a routine for whenever he wants to rid himself of another wife. He will stop all intimacy. He would essentially stop coming by the house as much as he used to and when he does come by – he would stay on his phone. He did that all of that to Merri. Which was why she sought comfort in her online friends. It’s also why she got catfished. The poor woman was just looking for love. She didn’t get that with the catfish and she couldn’t get it with her husband. He used the catfish thing against her. She’s simply on her own. Kody said they have a friendship and not a marriage. He then did same thing to Christine and Christine wasn’t going to wait around for Kody like Merri did.
Christine divorced Kody. She left him and took her kids. She’s arranging for a second Christmas for the kids. Kody got mad about it when he heard what she was doing. Kody said his house was supposed to be neutral. The kids were supposed to come over to his place so that they all celebrate together. Only Kody was no longer the head of Christine’s family. She was! She left Kody because she could see he had favorites and favorites in a polygamous marriage can be toxic. It forces the wives who aren’t getting along with him or even getting the barest sense of intimacy to ask themselves what’s the point of this marriage.
What is the point of polygamy if he was going to act like a monogamist? Kody chose Robyn. He prioritizes Robyn. He moved the family to Flagstaff for Robin. They had it good in Las Vegas. They didn’t have to worry about getting arrested or odds looks there. Only Robyn’s eldest son was moving to Arizona for school. This was when Kody suddenly said he wanted to move the whole family to Flagstaff, Arizona. They moved. They bought land there. It’s known as Coyote Pass and they haven’t paid it off since they moved to the area. And its been a couple of years now.
They moved to the area before the pandemic. Which was now three years ago at its worst. They couldn’t build on it until it was paid off. Robyn had to buy a house. Merri and Janelle were still renting. Christine has a house only its in Utah. She moved there after the divorce and Kody claimed she was breaking up the family. She wondered what family? He wasn’t being a present husband or father. He left his kids to fend for themselves when they needed him the most. It created an estrangement with his other kids as well. Two of Janelle’s sons aren’t talking to him. And vice versa.
Kody said he is waiting for them to apologize before they can be welcomed at Christmas. He failed to notice the distance this is creating with Janelle. The one thing that Janelle has always loved about Kody was his ability to connect with his kids. The fact that he doesn’t want to try and heal this relationship rift with her sons is now making her wonder if it was ever real. Kody loves to say he’s the head of the family. He just doesn’t act like it. He’s been pushing away three out of four wives and pulls a Pikachu face whenever they finally leave him.
Robyn never thought Christine would leave the family or take the kids back to Utah. She saw only the happy side of the couple. She thought they were all happy until Christine left. Robyn later talked to Merri one on one. Merri admitted that they were a good family. It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t perfect. But Merri said it was good as well as fun. There was lots of laughter. Then Robyn entered the picture. She shook up the dynamic. They never really recovered from that and now they can’t even have a relationship with Christine.
Christine has asked for space. She wanted space from Robyn as well as from Merri. The two were quite hurt by that. They both thought they had great relationships with her and it seems the only one she wants to stay in contact with is Janelle. Janelle was her best friend. It started out that way when Christine joined the family, but they eventually became best friends and Christine recently came to Arizona to visit Janelle. While she was in the area, she also met up with Kody. Kody once accused her of breaking up the family and so Christine didn’t know how to feel when they met for lunch.
Robyn sees Kody the most. She told Merri that he was struggling a lot in his head. Merri said that her relationship with him was nonexistent and so she didn’t think he would listen to her or welcome her support. The only one he was willing to listen to is Robyn. And the closet to affection that Merri could get was when Robyn loaned her Kody’s coat to wear.
Kody meanwhile was upset about the second Christmas. He and Christine discussed where family was going. Some of her kids will go over to his place. She will have a Christmas with Janelle. Janelle was beginning to want out of the marriage. Meri still has hope for the relationship with Kody, but Kody was asking everyone why she’s still around? He considers his marriage to Merri to be over. And so all he wants is Robyn.
And his own kids will say that Robyn can have him on this season of “Sister Wives”.
