In tonight’s #smothered episode, some mothers just can’t be happy for their daughters. They have to crush their daughters’ happiness. It’s when they try to destroy their daughter’s relationships though is when they cross a very important line. Take Mary. Mary could see that her daughter Brittani was happy with TJ.
It’s why she suddenly wanted to share a bed with Brittani at night and it’s why she tries to embarrass Brittani in front of TJ. Mary questions Brittani about her sex life in front of TJ. They could talk about it. They just couldn’t discuss it in front of TJ or out at a restaurant. There was a time and place for everything.
Something Mary refused to hear. Even when it comes from her own daughter. Brittani would try to tell her mother to ease up or maybe she should focus on her own sex life.
Mary refuses to hear it. She also crossed another very important line when she told TJ she owns Brittani. Brittani wasn’t allowed to do anything she disagreed with. Only Brittani wasn’t just dating TJ. They were engaged. They talked about Brittani moving out of her mom’s house. They were ready to leave the nest and Mary seemed the type that might kill TJ rather than let him marry her daughter.
This relationship however wasn’t the worst one on tonight’s episode of “sMothered”. The worst relationship was Trevor and India because India wasn’t his mother.
She was his mother-in-law. She was hanging off him like he was her man while her daughter who was pregnant by the way was left with two toddler daughters. That crap is ridiculous. India was willing to sabotage her relationship with her daughter in order to act inappropriately with her son-in-law. And he was just going along with it like it’s funny.
DeLeesa deserves so much better. She was never particularly close with her mom. Her mom doesn’t treat her like she treats Trevor. She feeds Trevor from her own mouth.
They have weekly hangouts at bingo. They were always riding their motorbikes around the neighborhood. Trevor had at one point come home to find India’s belongings in trash bags on the front lawn. He’s worried because he thinks his wife was going to hit him with an ultimatum. India on the other hand seemed confident that she’d win him in spite of an ultimatum.
Which sounds more like an emotional affair than a typical in-law relationship. This show was supposed to be about mothers and daughters and that relationship sounds like a divorce is coming because of the mother/daughter relationship.
Or lack thereof. India was risking a lot with her insistent demands to be number one in Trevor’s life when the real questions is where’s his mother? His actual mother. Did she tragically pass when he was young? Did she abandon the family? There has to be a reason why he’s focusing on his relationship with his mother-in-law.
This season though seems to be the rise of the daughters. They were acting out. Brittani wasn’t the only one that was feeling smothered. Skylar was feeling the same.
Skylar was a young woman and she wants to break into the music industry only her mother wants to do it with her. Sky wants to be on the album covers with Skylar. She wants to be in all the music videos. The only part she hasn’t done was sing any of the songs and who knows if that’ll be her next move. Sky is trying to put up boundaries. And they won’t work if her mother refuses to acknowledge them.
Sunni meanwhile was opening a new med spa. She was working with her mother and her sister had even created the new website. Only Mama Eva was interfering too much in Sunni’s relationship. Eva was constantly asking her daughter’s boyfriend when he was going to propose to Sunni and all that does is make him resistant to the idea.
Scott said he wasn’t going to marry Sunni if her mother continues to interfere in their lives. He said this in front of Eva. Eva still refused to take the hint. She kept pushing him for some kind of timeline and at this rate her daughter’s never going to get married.
All of this came out by the way after Eva tried surprising them with a wedding consultation.
And still none of that was bad as India. India had hung up on her own daughter when DeLeesa called her husband. India hogs up Trevor’s time. She acts like he’s not a father.
He about to become a father of three and India doesn’t seem acknowledge that. She doesn’t want to share Trevor with anyone. Trevor might not realize he’s having an emotional affair, but India probably does and she’s definitely playing into his mother fetish. It won’t be long before they actually start sleeping together.
