Tonight’s The Blacklist episode begins with Mr. Browning, the executor of Warren Bostwick’s estate, he is in the washroom and a man confronts him, roughs him up and asks how many clues did he find, when he doesn’t answer, the man slams his head down on the bathroom sink and Browning hits the floor.
Cooper wakes up and Red in his kitchen, he says she was in town and drank too late, one thing led to another, so he he had a cat nap on his couch. Cooper asks about Vesco, Red says he heard that he escaped from prison. Cooper says they need to find him and put him back in jail, but Red says that would be three women’s lives in jeopardy as the Hyena is on the hunt, a Blacklister of the lowest form.
Red tells him about Browning’s death and how it was made to look like a slip and fall. The Hyena is a scavenger by nature and will hunt down the hidden fortune that Bostwick left behind. The Hyena’s real name is Shawn Bane, he is hunting down the lost fortune. Bane killed Bostwick’s attorney and his next target is Bostwick’s triplets. , Cordelia is living in a remote village in Bolivia where she focuses on her relief work, Alex has been off the grid for nine months and Kendall was the CFO of her father’s company until recently.
Red goes to see Vesco and tells him lunch will be there within the hour. Vesco says he feels like he is being fattened up for the slaughter. First he busts him out of prison, now he is treating him like a princess. Red says he has lost a lot of people he cares about, he wants to fill his world with people he cares about. Vesco says that is crap. Red tells him he needs him for a job.
Dembe and Ressler go to see Kendall at her home, she shows him a video that her father made before he died. He says his three daughters were just waiting for him to die to have his money. He is leaving the video to teach them to work hard, it is the only way they will see his money.
Bostick’s fortune has doubled since his death and it is all in crypto, in a digital wallet. He has created a password for that wallet. He reads a poem, that has hidden clues. Solve the clues and they have access to ungodly riches. Kendall says when she finds the money she will take care of her sisters, they are free spirits. Dembe asks for the poem, she says no.
For two years Bostick’s daughters haven’t figured it out, but Red thinks that with Vesco’s help, they can do it. Red has the poem, “to find the answer you seek you will have to sit with Hemmingway, to have or have not your desire, just stay until the suns last ray.” Vesco says that he didn’t picture Bostwick as a Hemmingway kind of guy, unless it came to his cigars. Vesco says they need a way into Bostwick’s study.
Meanwhile, Bane gets into Kendall’s house by posing as FBI, he kills her security guard and he kills her.
The next morning Ressler and Dembe are on the scene, they need to get to Kendall’s sister Alex who is off the grid, one of Kendall’s security detail tell them where to find her. They go there and Dembe tells her that her sister is dead. Dembe says the man who got to Kendall is coming after her. Alex wants nothing to do with them, she locks her door. Dembe tells Ressler they have to put security on the building whether she likes it or not.
Red and Vesco are in Bostwick’s house, they go into the study and look into his cigar case and they are Hemmingways. The two sit down in chairs and smoke one each.
Siya calls Cordelia in Bolivia who says it has been a challenging day. Siya lets her know that there is a dangerous man after her and they can’t protect her in Bolivia. Cordelia says ok, she is planning to return for the funeral anyway.
It’s getting dark, Vesco turns on the lamp that reveals the hidden passcode clue. The next clue is “you can’t define it’s radiance, you love it irresistible, so find the stone I speak of and whisper to it softly.” Red says the only gem that meant anything to Bostwick was in his wive’s diamond ring. They look at pictures on the mantel, Alex is wearing the ring, it must have been passed down to her. Red knows that Bostwick engraved a tiny number inside the stone so if it was stolen, he would know it. That has to be the second piece to the clue.
Siya picks up Cordelia at the airport who says she is not interested in her father’s money. Siya tells her that they will protect her in the meantime.
Ressler and Dembe are watching the Hyena when they see Red and Vesco. Meanwhile, turns out that Cordelia is in on this whole thing, the Hyena calls her and tells her Red is looking into the case.
Vesco and Red are in the building where Alex lives, they arrive at her door and Vesco knocks, she lets them in because Tadashi arranged the meeting. Once inside, she bolts the door. They sit down and talk, Alex is with her dog named Diamond, Red gets the dog to walk out of the room with him and he says he is supposed to whisper to him softly, he turns over her ear and there are more numbers. All of a sudden, the lights go out, the power has been cut, the Hyena is there. Red calls Ressler and tells him that Alex needs protection. Alex makes a run for it, but the Hyena finds her and nabs her.
Ressler calls Cooper and tells him that Alex is gone, and so are Red and Vesco, yes he is with Vesco. Cooper tells him to head to the safe house where Cordelia is.
Red gives Vesco another clue, “every story much reach an end, such sadness that it does in part, to finish mine drop to a knee and read what is carved upon my heart.” Red thinks the true hint lies in the first half of the stanza, they need to locate Bostwick’s grave.
Alex is brought to Cordelia who asks her if she has solved any of the clues. Alex asks if she killed her sister, she says its wasn’t supposed to happen. Alex goes and writes something on a piece of paper, the code that was tattooed inside Diamond’s ear. Cordelia shoots Alex.
Red and Vesco arrive at Bostwick’s grave, she has destroyed the last part of the clue and tell them it is too late. Red says the Hyena is going to kill her, but she took care of him so that won’t happen. Cordelia didn’t shoot Alex, she shot the Hyena.
Red asks Cordelia if she knows what made his father sad. He shared with Red the reason for his success, it was the sadness for the loss of his wife, he thought it would drown it, but it didn’t. The final part of the clue was on his wives’s grave and when Cordelia tries to go look, Red shoots her in the foot. Red is leaving and Vesco asks about what they are going to do with Cordelia, he says he has someone to pick up the trash.
Tasha is able to get into Bostwick’s digital wallet. A tragic tale, Bostwick just wanted his girls getting back together and in the end, one is dead and one will be in prison. Red tells Tasashi to transfer half the money to Vesco and the other half goes to Alex.
Cooper finds Red in his home again, he asks him if he has to buy a blow up mattress. Red asks him to stay away from Vesco, he can’t be certain but he may need some help and not from the task force. Red says he and Vesco are old friends and hopefully their days of betrayal are in the past.
Then we see Vesco get out of a cab, a representative of Wujing tells him that he landed in prison because of Red, he walked into his trap. He hands him a car, says if he wants to know more, call the number on it, Mr. Wujing looks forward to discussing their shared interest.
THE END!
