In tonight’s The Good Doctor episode, Shaun noticed something was wrong with Dr. Glassman. He saw the way Glassman put together the crib. He knows that Glassman would never have done such shoddy work if he was at his best and so he suspected it had to do with some deteriorating brain function.
Shaun couldn’t know for sure. He would have to run several more tests on Glassman. But Glassman was refusing them. He said nothing was wrong with him and he was even refusing to stop performing surgeries. He was so sure that he was well that didn’t want admit he could possibly be putting patients at risk. And so Shaun had to consider if Glassman refused to.
Shaun began observing his friend at the hospital. He skipped breakfast. He went to the hospital bright and early and he made a nuisance of himself. He wouldn’t leave Glassman’s side. He followed even when he was just talking to patients.
Shaun had realized he needed proof before he could go to their bosses about Glassman’s condition. He therefore followed him around the hospital in hopes of getting evidence. It wasn’t working out all that well when a case caught Shaun’s eye. Shaun was a problem solver before anything else. He became interested in a concussion that turned into something more.
Some guy got hit in the head by a ball. It was supposed to be a quick concussion only it turned into an aneurysm. It needed to be fixed through surgery. Glassman felt for sure he could do this surgery. He didn’t want to hear what Shaun had to say about it. He even shouted at Shaun for interfering.
He claimed he was perfectly healthy. He could do the surgery because he’s done it before and he probably have to do it three times tomorrow. And so Shaun was forced to back down because he wanted to anger Glassman.
He was just worried about his friend. Their aneurysm also exploded while they weren’t there. The patient had needed to be rushed to an OR. His surgery was rushed and, in that rush, Shaun was afraid mistakes would be made. Elsewhere in the hospital, there was a patient with a rare condition.
His condition meant he has a tree like growth coming out of his whole body. His parents both had the condition and they were a part of a circus. Only they put him up for an adoption because they thought a family act with the disease would be too sad. And their job was to make people happy at the circus.
The patient himself was put in foster care. He got a foster mother that was a minister and a foster father that was a carpenter. He was a carpenter now himself. He works for himself. He has a great business. He has great insurance. The doctors all tried to convince him to do more work on himself to remove the lesions and he told them he didn’t it. The lesions would only grow back if they trimmed it down. He also said that in his business there was a saying for that. “If it aint broke, don’t fix it”.
Morgan also realized she developed quite a bond with baby Eden. The baby has Turner’s Syndrome. She’s going to need quite a few surgeries later on in life and so no other foster parents would have her, but Morgan wanted her. Adoption wasn’t originally in Morgan’s plan. Only she’s come to love the baby and she doesn’t want to lose her. She agreed to stop IVF. She didn’t more children. Eden was it for her. Morgan also doesn’t care what anyone else had to say about it. Love is love. Shaun loves Glassman. Its why he’s been following him around and he watched Glassman save his patient’s life.
Only the patient with the lesions didn’t make it. He later died from his injuries and everyone was taking it hard. The man used his faith to remain standing in the face of all his pain. He was a role model to all of them and he even taught Asher that he was wrong for hating on a man who was religious. He realized that lesson when Jerome asked for a break from him. And Asher had to embarrass himself in front of Jerome’s friends as he told everyone how blessed he was to be in Jerome’s life. Jerome helped Asher to find god again in his life.
And Shaun diagnosed Glassman. He even has a name for the other man’s condition. It was going to be deteriorating for him and Glassman couldn’t do surgeries anymore.
THE END!
