In tonight’s The Rookie: Feds episode, there was a severed arm found in LA. It was cut with a mysterious weapon. The Medical Examiner couldn’t determine what was used to sever the arm. The LAPD couldn’t figure it out either. Only the cops were able to figure out that this arm was connected to a different severed arm that was found in Arizona.
The arm in Arizona belonged to an entirely different victim. The only connection was both arms were cut by this mysterious weapon and they were both disposed of without the rest of the body. This could indicate they were looking for a serial killer. And so LAPD read the FBI in on what’s been happening.
The FBI were the ones that investigated serial killers. They could handle a multi-state investigation. Plus, Garza’s budget meant his medical staff could do a proper check on the arm. Antoinette was quickly able to determine what the mystery weapon was. It was a pressurized water gun.
The ones used in construction to mostly cut through glass or countertops. These things were that strong and they could easily cut through skin. The killer must have gotten his hands on one. He was now using that weapon as a torturing weapon.
But Antoinette was also able to figure out that both severed arms had a shared parent. They were half-siblings and it seems that the victim they identified had been conceived through donated sperm. His mother went to a sperm bank in the city. The FBI went to this fertility clinic.
They found out that someone hacked their system to access their files from thirty years ago and then erased those files once they were done stealing them. The fertility clinic still kept hard copies though. Elena and Antoinette went digging through them.
It turns out the victims’ father is Thomas Clay Briggs. He’s a serial killer. He’s currently serving six life sentences and will most likely die in prison. After Laura and Brendan talked to him about who want to kill his children, he told them it was probably a family member of one of his victims.
He did horrible things to those people. Their families could want revenge. They couldn’t get to Briggs because he was in prison and so killing his kids could be the next best thing. The only problem is that Briggs doesn’t care about kids.
Briggs donated his sperm to pay for beer when he was back in college. He has no ties to these people. He doesn’t care about them and their deaths didn’t affect him in the slightest. Only they were in danger.
There was a crazy person killing them off. He follows them for a couple of days and if he sees them doing something wrong – he kills them as punishment. Or at least that was his reasoning at the start. He actually caught one of them as his victim was robbing a grocery store. There was footage of it and it shows that their killer was subduing his victims with a cattle prod.
Those things were vicious on animals. They were even worse on humans. The killer got off on the torture and so the FBI began warning all the kids that Briggs “fathered”. They ended up warning the killer. The killer was one of Briggs’s kids. His name is Roman Griffiths. He was seen spying on one of his siblings.
Her name is Maggie Whitlock. She never even knew she was fathered by Briggs. She grew up with two loving parents. She was married now and has a son. And Roman was spying on them both in spite of both police and FBI presence.
Roman had the chance to kill his nephew. He saw the kid wandering outside and alone. He ignored him. He was too busy spying on his half-sister. This gave Simone enough time to spot him. They tried to capture him and he escaped. Then he did something that would draw even more attention to himself. He abducted Laura. Laura had been the one to call him to warn him. She hadn’t wanted to use the word “evil” with describing the serial killer and Roman appreciated that. He thought Laura would understand him.
He abducted her outside of her new house. Atlas along with Brendan and Antoinette were inside for the house warming. They thought it odd that Laura was taking so long at a grocery store up the block. They then saw her car was still in the driveway and were quickly able to deduce that she had been taken by the killer.
They also learned that the killer was one of Briggs’s children. They figured out it was the only way he would know about Briggs donating his sperm. Its not like it was a matter of public record. Briggs barely remembered it himself.
They went digging through the children’s file. Simone recognized Roman. Roman had claimed to be in Canada on vacation when really he was hunting down his siblings. He explained it all to Laura. He has struggled with a need to commit violence all his life.
He tried therapy, exorcisms, and medication. Nothing cured him. He found out about Briggs being his father and he thought that meant all of Briggs’s children were the same as him. They all wanted to kill according to him. He took Laura because he wanted someone to give him a pep talk to kill his six year old nephew.
Roman claimed that he would be saving lives by killing his siblings. He pretended that he was helping when really he was just another serial killer and he got off on killing people.
He tried to kill Laura when she refused to buy his reasoning. She fought him off. She was running when Atlas and Brendan found her with Roman. And Roman killed himself with his final words being its their fault if any member of his family continues the killing.
And while Laura was going to be alright, Simone had her own scare when her father was sent to the hospital.
