In tonight’s The Voice episode, Kelly was up first with her team as the Battles continued tonight. She decided to pair ALI with D.Smooth. She gave them the song “Unaware” by Allen Stone. Kelly loves working with her team and she got to appreciate both of her artists in their own way. It was one thing to hear that ALI wears a hearing aide. It was quite another to see her tackle the song and turn it into her own. She was incredibly talented. The same goes for D. Smooth. He was an amazing singer and he’s overcome his own setbacks. He and ALI were also similar in their just overall vibe.

It has a relaxing feel to it. Not that they weren’t taking the competition seriously. They were. They both chose Kelly because Kelly believed in them so strongly that they knew she would go to bat for them during this competition. But sadly this was the Battles. There had to be a winner. Their coach couldn’t save everyone and she had a tough decision after their performance. Their performance itself had gone off without a hitch. It was just utter perfection. It also gave them a moment to truly stand on their own as artists.

There weren’t a lot of people that got that and so there were no hard feelings when Kelly chose ALI as the winner of that battle. But this wasn’t the end for D. Smooth. He was thankfully not eliminated. He was in the middle of thanking Kelly when Chance tried to use his Steal to add D. Smooth to his team. Only he didn’t get to join Chance’s team because then Kelly used her pass to keep D. Smooth with her team. D. Smooth got to stay with his coach. His battle ended with a happy ending and it was onto the next one.

Team Blake went second. This was Blake’s last season. He wanted to go out with a bang and so he Blake paired Grace with Carlos. They both have a cool vibe. Blake thought it would be amazing if he gave them a Country song. He gave them “I Told You So”. Carlos has never actually performed a country song before. He wasn’t like Grace with a country twang. He was more Singer/Songwriter and he used that skillset to turn the song into his own. And in doing so, his part didn’t actually sound like a country song.

It also didn’t rise to the challenge. Which was something none of them saw coming. Carlos had the edge over Grace going into the Battle. He has the experience. He knew how to rearrange the song to fit his voice and skillset. He also was comfortable onstage and Grace was still finding her way. Only his version wasn’t in keeping with the song. Grace ultimately won because her authenticity was on point. Carlos was sadly eliminated tonight only he does have a great voice and maybe he’ll come back next season. Maybe a different coach would give him a better song.

Next up was Team Niall. Niall paired Tianna with Kate. He said they both knew who they were as artists and that confidence was why he paired them together. It was also why he gave them the song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. It was a great song. It challenged them in an unexpected way. Niall also coached them that going after the big notes was great in certain moments, but they needed to give the song room to breathe and so he advised them to take in to the earthier tones of the song. And when they weren’t practicing, Niall was checking up on them.

Kate had recently gotten engaged. She was in a great mindset thanks to that and Tianna was also doing great because she was still flying on high for getting picked for Niall’s team. Niall was a great coach. He knew how it felt to be in their position. He was once famously on a competition show himself and, while he didn’t win, he knew what it took to get that close. Plus, it was a great rearrangement of the song. There was no clear winner of the battle. They had the other coaches all over the place in who they thought should win and so Niall had to go with his own gut instinct.

Niall chose Kate. He loved Kate’s voice. He thought she shined a little bit more and that’s okay because Tianna didn’t get eliminated. Chance used his Steal to get Tianna on his team. Chance was actually playing the long game. He told Niall that Katie won that battle and he only did that because he was planning on getting Tianna for his team. His plan worked. He got Tianna and now he was out of Steals for the night. Up next was Team Kelly again. Kelly decided to pair Holly with Katie Beth and she did so out of curiosity.

Kelly was genuinely curious about how they would sound together. This was the only reason she paired them together and it ended up being her favorite performance of the night. She gave them the song “Lady Like”. It was a powerful song. It had a great message of empowerment. It was a little Pop as well as a little Country. It was great for both Holly and Mary Beth’s voices. Holly however was the clear winner. The performance itself had sounded like it was Holly’s performance and that Mary Beth was just a backup singer.

Mary Beth was simply too soft-spoken. Team Chance went on next. He paired Chloe with NariYella. They were both amazing R&B artists in their own right and the only difference was style. NariYella went for those high notes. She has a big voice that was mostly finetuned by Gospel. Chloe on the other hand was more relaxed. She has amazing runs if she’s just being herself and so Chance told her to be herself. He didn’t want her trying for the higher notes if she wasn’t comfortable with them. He wanted her to showcase her own skills.

During rehearsals, they were a little all over the place. They came up with a routine number to perform and they got too caught up with that. They took the focus off the music. Chance had been watching that rehearsal and he told them it wasn’t good. He was being honest. He said they were losing their selves in trying to stage everything just right. He gave them song “I Want You Around”. The focus should be on the music and once they returned theirs to its proper place – there was a winner.

Chance named NariYella as the winner. Her coach was already looking forward to give her the bigger songs he felt she deserved and that was it for Chloe. Next up was Michael B. and Ryley Tate from Team Niall. He paired them because they have similar nuisances to their voice. Ryley Tate was a four chair turn. He has a great voice. So does Michael B. Niall gave them an R&B love song called “Heartbreak Anniversary” to highlight their voice. And Ryley Tate had some difficulties because his voice was started to crack up in practice. And he couldn’t help it that he was fifteen.

He was the baby. He didn’t even have his driver’s permit. With his voice acting up, Niall told him to sing around the cracks. And that led to an amazing performance.

Niall chose Michael as the winner and Niall also used the Playoff Pass to send Ryley into the next round.

THE END!
