In tonight’s #TheVoice episode, Wynonna Judd joined the cast as the Mega mentor tonight. She was there to help everyone get prepared for the Knockouts! It was going to be a three way knockout this season. Three contestants on the stage and only one will be chosen as the winner.

But there were a few rounds left of the Battles before the show went into sudden death with the Knockouts. Up first was Team Niall. He paired Huntley with Brailey Lenderman. They were both his Soulful Pop Rockers. They have these great and unique voices only Niall doesn’t necessarily need the both of them. And so he gave them “Hold My Hand” to see which would blow him away.

Huntley has a soft spot for this song. His daughter was born with some issues. They were told she might not survived and then she held his finger and she got better after that. It was a miracle. She was now a very happy seven year old. She helped her dad pick Niall’s team. His whole family are huge fans of Niall’s. His mom has even been to Niall’s concert and Niall offered her a refund tonight because he didn’t feel right charging the mother of one of his best artists. And Huntley was one of the best because he wowed everyone.

There was no true battle tonight. Brailey let her nerves get to her. It happened during rehearsals and it continued into the Battles. Only no one wanted to come out and say that Huntley was the best. They instead tried to say some great things about the both of them. Even if the winner was quite clear. Niall went on to choose Huntley. He knows that he can win with Huntley and so he said goodbye to Brailey tonight. Brailey can always come back next year. Team Reba was up next. She paired Crystal Nicole with Caitlin Quisenberry .

One was Country. The other was Soul. Reba ended up pairing them together because she felt they both had a storyteller quality to their voices and that’s why she gave them the song that embodied that quality. She gave them “The song Remembers When”. It was about the strength of music. The memory that music alone can carry. The women were good friends and that was proven as they arranged the song to fit the both of them. They both got to shine at their duet performance. They sounded lovely together.

It’s just that this song was very much a Country song. It heavily favored one over the other. Reba should see that as a coach. She was still new to this and so she hasn’t quite gotten the song selection part down. She still needs to work on that. The others were a little more experienced. This was Niall’s second season and so he figured this out last season. And Reba just needed to learn it after this season. She favored Caitlin with the song and Caitlin won. There was no doubt about that.

Saying goodbye to Crystal tonight was a tough one. It simply wasn’t Crystal’s field that she was performing in and that’s why she was eliminated tonight. The other coaches could see that even if they didn’t have enough faith in Crystal to use their Steal for her. Crystal was thankfully a bigger person than they deserve. She moved Reba to tears tonight with her goodbye and so Reba was going to get better at this one way or another. Next up was Team Gwen. Gwen paired Brandon Montel with Kara Tanae.

They both have similar tones as well as genres. They were Soulful and R&B at the same time. Gwen also gave them a great song that fits both of them. She gave them “Have You Ever”. Gwen has a fondness for the 90s because that’s when she was first coming up in the music business. She looked to Brandy’s success back then and she dreamed of having that one day and now she does. It made her into a good coach. Gwen noticed some problems during rehearsals that she quickly headed off. She told Brandon that he was being too soft with his voice and Kara was being too much with hers.

Gwen coached both of them into doing a perfect duet. It was so perfect that that everyone felt bad for Gwen. She had to lose someone and there at the ready was John with one last Steal up his sleeve. He couldn’t wait to grab whoever Gwen let go. Gwen chose Tara and John grabbed up Brandon rather fast after that. John has always wanted Brandon for his team. He was blocked during the Blinds. He now has Brandon and that was the last Battle. It was now time for the Knockouts. And as a happy side note, the artists picked their own song.

This was also when Wynonna got to come in to do her stuff. Wynonna has done everything. She’s had everything and she’s lost everything and she even wrote a book about it. None of that has ever stopped Wynonna from singing. She was first with Reba. Reba was taking part in her first Knockout and the first of the season. She paired Tom, Allison, and Jacquie together. Reba had seen great things in each of them. She also was quite happy to Steal Jacquie. Allison chose the song “Its Too Late”. Jacquie chose “Girl”. Tom chose “I Know I’m Losing You”. These three were all different parts of Country.

The women needed assistant with their lower registers. Tom needed to get out from behind the mike stand because that along with his giant cowboy hat was taking away from his beautiful face. Jacquie performed first. Allison performed second. Tom was the last to perform in this round. This round was filled with great music and even better artists. Everyone loved every bit of it. Reba had a hard time picking the winner and she only gave it to Jacquie because Jacquie was an all around perfect artist.

Then Reba tried to use her Save to save Tom while Gwen tried to use her Steal to get Tom. Reba had to chase Gwen around the chairs for a bit and she had nothing to worry about. Tom chose her. She believed in him from the beginning. He doesn’t want to go anywhere and so Gwen got to hold onto her Steal. Next up was Team John. He paired Caleb, Mara, and Kaylee together. Kaylee chose “Aint No Way”. Caleb chose “Jealous”. Mara chose “Without You”. They all chose such serious songs and so none of them were shy with their music.

They all dealt with nerves. They all had needed Wynonna to say they were good and that it’s okay to breathe. She even taught them a tip. She said “grab your butt” to calm down onstage. It helps her and John also said it’s helpful to focus your body during a performance. It seems to have worked for them during rehearsals although they seemed skittish about grabbing their butts onstage during their live performance. And so Mara really ended things with her take on “Without You” because it was mind-blowing.

The same went for Kaylee. Her rendition of “Aint No Way” was perfection. John chose Kaylee as the winner. Mara came up for grabs and both Gwen and Niall tried to use their Steal for her. She had a great night with picking a team and the one person the judges weren’t mentioning was Caleb. Caleb literally disappeared off the stage without anyone speaking up for him.

And the night ended on a cliffhanger with Mara still having to pick someone.

THE END!
