The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that while Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has been battling some new family challenges, his portrayer has been dealing with some personal challenges of his own.
Recently on Facebook Live, Braeden decided to get honest about some news related to his health.
For starters, Braeden opened up about his left knee replacement and how his recovery turned out to be a lot tougher than anticipated.
While Braeden was recuperating from his knee surgery, he began to have problems with his prostate.
Braeden indicated that he’d some issues with it in the past as well and ultimately opened up about seeking treatment.
Although this is a subject that some people might find tough to talk about, Braeden made the brave choice to speak out and hopefully raise awareness.
“I hate to be this personal, but I think this could be good for some older guys who may or may not listen to this,” Braeden said.
Braeden went to a urologist and sought treatment advice, but he faced some struggles along the way and had to have a catheter inserted a couple times.
Although Braeden got some temporary relief, he had a more serious problem later and wound up seeing another urologist at the hospital on the way to work one morning.
Braeden suggested that he “serendipitously” connected with a urologist who was very well-known and a pioneer of the UroLift treatment that had been recommended to him.
It turns out this urologist learned English from Y&R when he first came from Vietnam, so he recognized Braeden as the great Victor Newman and did his best to help him.
After the doctor used his equipment to take a closer look at Braeden’s bladder, he diagnosed Braeden with cancer and planned surgery to remove it along with doing the UroLift.
Following the procedure, the urologist looked at the biopsy report and found some high-grade cancer cells amidst the lower-grade ones. He recommended immunotherapy, so Braeden wanted to let fans know it was going well.
“So if you’ve seen me a little under the weather…yeah, I have been, but I will lick this…and I’ll be in top form again soon,” Braeden said.
Braeden insisted he was happy to work and that it distracts him. The Y&R star also thanked fans for their support and added that it meant a lot.
“Nowadays there’s so much advance in cancer treatment, you can survive it,” Braeden said as he wrapped up his video message on a positive note.
