The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that some romantic shakeups are brewing as we head into the new year, so we should start thinking about which couples will survive and which ones will be torn apart. With that in mind, we have to consider whether it might be time to pull the plug on Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) and Billy Abbott’s (Jason Thompson) romance.
Billy was there for Chelsea at her lowest and saved her from a grim fate on The Grand Phoenix rooftop on her worst night.
That led to a special bond that grew into a romantic relationship, but that doesn’t mean Chelsea and Billy are meant to stay together forever.
Chelsea will always be grateful to Billy, but is that gratitude part of the reason why she wants to be with him?
It could certainly be a factor for Chelsea, who may also be using Billy as an emotional crutch deep down.
In other words, there might be part of Chelsea that fears she’ll fall apart and head down that same disturbing road without Billy by her side.
Likewise, Billy tends to be drawn to damsels in distress and may feel like Chelsea still needs saving on some level.
It’s clear that Billy is constantly searching for a sense of purpose, so does Chelsea still give him that?
Chelsea and Billy didn’t become a couple in the healthiest of circumstances – not to mention they have a controversial history.
Some fans are never going to support Billy and Chelsea due to the way Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind) was conceived.
Since Chelsea drugged Billy into sleeping with her back then, that’s something some viewers just can’t forgive and forget.
Of course, there’s also the matter of chemistry – or lack thereof depending on your perspective!
Do Chelsea and Billy really sizzle enough to warrant keeping their love story going in 2024?
Y&R writers may choose to dig their heels in and deepen the romance instead, but many fans would rather see Billy and Chelsea explore new love interest options.
