The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) will have her work cut out for her when it comes to figuring a way out of trouble. Phyllis begged Summer Newman-Abbott (Allison Lanier) for time to come up with a solution, so we should consider what that solution might ultimately be.
Y&R fans know Phyllis doesn’t want to go down for faking her death, framing Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) and killing Jeremy Stark (James Hyde), so how can she get away with all of that?
The best strategy at this point would be for Phyllis to fake being stuck in captivity and act like she’s been there this whole time.
Let’s say Phyllis plants a few clues for Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) to follow so that he can play the hero.
That could lead to Chance bursting in some basement somewhere and finding Phyllis tied up in the corner looking harrowed.
Phyllis might insist that she remembers passing out from the poison and not much else until she woke up in captivity.
Perhaps Phyllis could argue that Jeremy tied her up and sent accomplices to deliver food and water.
It’d be easy for Phyllis to play dumb about Jeremy’s death and act shocked to find out that someone killed him.
Phyllis would have an alibi if the cops think she’s been locked away and unable to get to Stark or anyone else.
Although Phyllis would prefer for Diane to pay, she knows Summer wouldn’t go for letting Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) mom take the fall forever.
Phyllis could easily act like Jeremy manipulated her and made her believe Diane was the enemy when clearly Stark was the enemy all along.
That could help Phyllis downplay the voicemail she left – and she could even pretend to recall seeing Jeremy with the poison bottle.
If Phyllis takes this route, she could actually be viewed as quite magnanimous for defending Diane and helping get her off the hook.
Phyllis would also come out looking like Stark’s poor victim instead of being treated like a town pariah for fooling everyone.
Jeremy isn’t alive to defend himself, so Phyllis’ best bet is to just pin everything on him and create this captivity alibi to “prove” she wasn’t to blame for his death.
If Phyllis throws more money at EMT Carson (Walter Belenky) and perhaps gets him to vanish like the ambulance driver, she might be in the clear! Phyllis could make everything look like Jeremy’s doing while she was just along for the ride.
Of course, Chance could eventually find some holes in Phyllis’ story and grow suspicious, but pretending to be Jeremy’s captive and holding him responsible still seems like the most logical option.
Phyllis will have to pitch some sort of solution soon, so is this one that Summer and Daniel Romalotti Jr. (Michael Graziadei) could get behind?
