In tonight’s Welcome To Plathville episode, Olivia wishes to finish her bartending license in Minnesota. She and her husband recently moved to Minnesota. They wanted a fresh start. They needed to get away from the negativity. Only Olivia was also viewing the move as a chance to grow.
She’s still a wedding photographer. She was holding onto that profession because it pays the bills and she wasn’t unhappy with the job. She just wants to work on being a mixologist on the side. It was one of her dreams. It interested her. It even got her out of the house and meeting new people.
Ethan was fine. He was fine as long as he got to work on cars. He was happy to be away from his family and he didn’t mind that Olivia wanted this one thing for herself. He supported her decision. She supports him in everything he does. They remain together in spite of the outright hostility they’ve received from his family.
They fell out with Moriah. Moriah now has their number blocked. Not that she acknowledges that because she acted surprise when they move and she wasn’t told. And its like, how can they tell you if you blocked them?
As if new family drama wasn’t already enough, Kim had some news tonight. She’s met someone. His name is Ken. Ken works with her son Isaac and so she finally told her boy about the relationship tonight. He hadn’t been surprised. He suspected something more was going on. He just wasn’t upset by it.
The most negative thing he said was that it felt weird and he didn’t even say that to his mother. He said it in one of his asides to the camera. Isaac also told his mother that he just wants her to be happy. He wants her to be happy. He wants his dad to be happy. He’s made peace with their split.
His dad felt differently. Barry was told by Kim that she wanted to date other people when they first agreed to separate. But it’s like he didn’t want to accept that news.
She kept telling him several times that she was going to date other people. He didn’t acknowledge it or tell her not to do. He chose silence then and now he’s suddenly vocal. He was against her dating other people. He said it felt wrong. He was angry. He also was getting in the way of her turning the farm into a wedding venue. The divorce was creating issues between them.
Kim wasn’t getting angry about it. She was focusing on her new life. One that can include Ken. She and Ken were both at the age where they realized it’s better to be with the right person and not merely the most convenient person as they get older. Though Kim was still adjusting to dating life. She last dated Barry and that was when Clinton was first nominated into the presidency. She’s still feeling her way through dating again. She and Ken talked. They DTR. They were now boyfriend and girlfriend. And Kim feels like she’s falling in love.
Barry on the other hand was doing his best not to hate Kim. He said she did a lot to him that he could resent her for. He also added that she probably has her own list about things he did.
He just didn’t want to hate her. She was the still mother of his children after all. He hasn’t completely given up hope on them in spite of all the signs that says she’s ready to move on without him. And so that can either be very sweet or very problematic.
Over in Minnesota, Olivia’s sister came up for a visit with her boyfriend. The two couples had fun hanging out with each other. They played drinking games. They took their minds off of their problems with Moriah. Moriah did the same about them. She talked to Micah.
She said that Ethan got too used to bullying her. It got so bad that he was calling her every night and so she blocked him as a way of maintaining her peace of mind. And now she feels bad because Ethan has no way of contacting her when he is ready to apologize. Or when she hopes he apologizes.
But apologies doesn’t seem to be a big thing for Ethan. Ethan took everyone out for a drive. He started doing donuts in the middle of a snow storm with the car and that was while knowing Olivia has been in car accidents in the past. He knew Olivia wasn’t comfortable. She asked him not to do it.
He ignored her and that made things awkward for their guests. Olivia’s sister came to think Ethan was being a jerk. And it turns out that was the beginning of the end for them in Minnesota.
They started fighting right after that and they won’t stop for months.
