On tonights 9-1-1 Lone Star episode, Owen was in trouble. He essentially told the Mayor of Austin to kiss his behind. He was standing up for one of his own when he did that and so he got in trouble with the Austin Fire Department.
They brought him in front of a panel. The last time they did that was when Owen punched a superior officer. Only this time it was different. They weren’t suspending him. They instead were offering the opportunity of a lifetime. They were contacted by the NYC Fire Department. The firefighters in New York want Owen to come back.
They want him to become the new Fire Chief there. The current Fire Chief was retiring. Owen was also a New Yorker. He was a great captain there and he rebuilt his firehouse after 9/11.
Now that he’s gone viral again for defending his people, he seemed like a great man to lead them. The city wants him back. They even sent Kristin Triola to help convince him. Her father used to work with Owen. He remembers the older Triola with fondness. They also sent her because she was honest with Owen.
Kristin and Owen later went out to dinner to discuss the details. That’s when Kristin said the current Fire Chief wasn’t retiring on his own accord. He was being pushed out. Things were kinda bleak in the city.
There were a lot of empty buildings since the pandemic. Several firehouses were shut down. The budget was cut. They were underfunded and understaffed and the only person they think of who could lead him out of this black hole was Owen. Owen was remembered with great respect.
Owen checked in on the kids of all of his fallen friends. He was a fond uncle to a new generation of firefighters and no one had anything bad to say about him. Which was why they want to offer him the leadership.
They need Owen only Owen doesn’t need them. Owen rebuilt his life in Austin. He made friends. His only child now lives there with his husband. TK was even considering adopting his little brother. Jonah was still a little kid and TK was going to need advice if not emotional support to do that.
TK’s marriage was in trouble. He wanted to adopt Jonah. His husband Carlos said he wasn’t ready for that. Carlos was focusing on his father’s case and he couldn’t think or do anything that wasn’t connected to finding his father’s killer. It didn’t even matter that Carlos had a break in the case.
He still didn’t want to sign up for raising Jonah and TK was ready to issue ultimatums. TK said very clearly that if he had to choose between his husband or his brother – he’d choose his brother. And so his friends were worried about him.
They knew TK was deeply in love with Carlos. They didn’t want TK to lose his marriage. They just couldn’t get Carlos to care about anything else. Carlos went to his boss with information he got from Nestor Grimes. His father’s former criminal informant named Ranger Campbell as the leak.
Carlos wanted to arrest him right away. Ranger Bridges said they needed to get a warrant first. He wanted to do everything official and they first had to make the case against Campbell airtight. They found evidence that Campbell accessed the other ranger’s protected information. And without authorization.
Bridges and Carlos went to Campbell’s home once they had the evidence. They unfortunately didn’t know that was his son’s birthday. Campbell asked for a few minutes to say goodbye to his son and he used that to escape. He was on the run. His wife wasn’t helping. The Rangers were constantly on the backfoot.
They later learned that Campbell broke into someone’s home to steal everything in their two safes. One was money and jewelry. The other was guns. Campbell knew about it. He emptied both and he had to stab the homeowner to escape once again.
After she found out he harmed someone, his wife finally agreed to talk. She told them that Campbell would be heading to Mexico. The Rangers deployed a drone.
They quickly caught up to Campbell and it led to a shootout. Carlos had the chance to kill Campbell. He didn’t take it because he realized in that moment that Campbell didn’t kill his father. It was Bridges the whole time. Bridges used Campbell’s login. He had Carlos’s father think Campbell was the bad guy and it didn’t add up until Carlos saw Bridges pull out his sidepiece.
The same sidepiece used to murder his father. He put everything together. Bridges shot Carlos and he would have killed him if Campbell hadn’t taken out Bridges. Carlos got justice, but he never got the answer as to why. Why did Bridges turn on his people? He caused the deaths of several criminal informants.
He personally killed his fellow Ranger. He would have killed Carlos as well and the only thing he had to say before he died was “sorry”. Not for killing people. He apologized for ruining Carlos’s wedding.
Both Carlos and Campbell were taken to a hospital to get treatment. Carlos apologized to Campbell for thinking he was the dirty cop. Campbell told him there was nothing to apologize for.
He followed the evidence. It wasn’t either of their fault that their boss was crooked. Campbell’s wife will probably still hold a grudge against Carlos because he told her that her husband was evil. And so it’s a good thing both men weren’t going into active duty anytime soon.
Carlos started thinking about his life once he solved the case. He remembered he loves TK and he agreed to adopt Jonah.
Owen meanwhile was leaning towards turning down the job in New York. He found out Judd has been drinking. Not the occasional beer or anything. He’s been drinking everyday and was most likely showing up to work drunk. And he wanted to get his friend into AA program before he leaves to fend for himself.
THE END!
