In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, some self-help guru found himself in a little trouble. The guy was telling a crowd of people how to succeed with a great mindset when all of a sudden his hand went crazy. His hand started attacking him. He was suffering from Alien Hand Syndrome. Hen recognized it instantly.
She asked the man if he suffered an irregular heartbeat lately and he said he had to be tested for that a couple of weeks ago. It created a blood clot. The blood clot traveled to his brain. It created a disconnect between the brain and the hand. And the hand was very dangerous.
It tried to strangle Buck. It grabbed Eddie’s genitals. They had to sedate the hand and quickly transfer the man it was attached to back to the hospital. Where they could deal with the blood clot in his brain. Buck was all healed up in time for his date with Tommy.
They went out and Buck was nervous. It was his first date with a guy. He thought it would be okay because he was an ally. He put the rainbow flag up on his Instagram every year. He was telling Tommy all about it when they ran into Eddie with his girlfriend and Buck completely freaked out.
He lied to Eddie. He said they were going to go look for hot chicks after this. Tommy likes him, but he knows Buck isn’t ready for a relationship and so Buck can call him whenever he’s ready to stop lying about his life to his loved ones. Buck was about to lose a great guy.
He has to decide if he’s ready to pursue being bisexual or if he wants to go back into the closet. The best he could do was talk about it with his sister. He told Maddie some of what happened. He was going to leave the part out that his date was a man when he slipped up.
He used the pronoun “he” during his slip. Maddie realized it was a guy. She thought that was the key part of the story and not the fact that he lied to Eddie about the date.
She also found out that his date was Tommy. She said Eddie’s friend. Buck explained that they were new friends because they both met Tommy at the same time.
Maddie told Buck that he needs to understand his own feelings before he could put a label on it. She told him to take some time and think about what’s best for him. And then he could talk about it with Eddie.
Another great person to talk to would be Hen. Hen was a lesbian. She was actually a black lesbian and so she understands stigma as well as other people’s expectations. Hen was kinda busy at the moment with her family. They took in a little girl. They were originally going to adopt a toddler.
It fell through because the grandmother changed her mind and so their social worker told them about another little girl. One that needs help. The little girl was nine. Her parents were both dead. She was staying at a group home and she carries around a blanket everywhere.
The blanket was the only thing from home that she was able to keep. Mara mentioned that when she first entered the foster care system and she hasn’t said a word since. She was completely nonverbal. She was also deeply traumatized. Hen and her wife woke up on their first night with her to find Mara standing at the foot of their bed.
They offered to take her back to her room when she just started screaming. Hen doesn’t know what this little girl’s been through. She just knows it’s bad and there’s a chance they might not be able to keep her if she continues to become violent.
Mara was violent with Denny. Denny offered her his stuffed toy. She ripped it apart. Denny tried to move her blanket to set the table the next morning and she threw a plate at his head.
He needed stitches after that. Mara may need help only Hen has to think of Denny. Denny was her son. He was his parents’ first priority. Hen talked to Karen after they came back from the hospital and Hen was ready to send Mara back. She didn’t think they should keep a girl if she’s proving violent. It took Hen meeting a dog named Rosie to change her mind.
There was a fire at Rosie’s home. She was a fight dog until she had been rescued. Her new owners were rehabilitating her when a fire broke out. Rosie attacked the firefighter trying to rescue her and she could still be put down in spite of Hen saving her life. Hen performed CPR on a dog because she saw how sad her owner was.
She brought the dog back to life. The whole thing made her realize that she needed more information on Mara. Everyone has given up on Mara. The least the little girl deserved was them finding out more information on her. Hen reached out to Athena. She got the file on Mara’s parents.
Mara’s parents were crooks. They’ve been in and out of jail since they were teenagers. Most of it was for drug offences. Their only child saw most of their drug usage.
She was the one that called 911 when her parents didn’t wake up after taking pills. She explained to the dispatcher that her parents normally wake up. Its why Mara watched Hen and Karen sleep. She was making sure that they wake up. Mara was deeply traumatized and now Hen and Karen understand the root of the trauma. They were going to try to help her. They were going to keep her.
Buck also finally told Eddie about the date with Tommy. Eddie was hiding at his place. He had recently learned that his girlfriend was in training to be a nun when she quit.
It brought out all of Eddie’s Catholic guilt. He wasn’t even sure he was still Catholic until he learned he was sleeping with a former nun novice. This also happened after he asked Marisol to live with him and his son. Buck couldn’t help with this. He told him to go to Bobby. Bobby explained that Eddie could simply be looking for a way out.
He could be commitment shy. Something he didn’t understand until he talked to Buck again. Buck finally said he was on a date with Tommy and that it might be their last date because he had been nervous to tell Eddie.
Well, Eddie said it doesn’t change anything. He and Buck were still best friends. He also didn’t see that Buck was sorta disappointed by that. Maybe the Eddie/Buck ship wasn’t fully dead yet. Eddie went back to Marisol and he apologized for ghosting her for a day. And they agreed to talk through their problems.
Buck also called Tommy. He asked Tommy to be his date for his sister’s wedding. Buck told Tommy that he was going to know most of the people there and so Tommy agreed. He likes him. Only Buck later messed up the wedding when he lost the groom at the bachelor party.
THE END!
