In tonight’s Blue Bloods episode, someone murdered a deliveryman in cold blood. The poor man was out on his bicycle. His killer ran him over with their car and then shot twice before fleeing the scene. They wanted to make sure he was dead. The question was why. Why did Miguel Diaz deserve this? Detective Joe Hill brought his uncle Danny onto this case.
Joe has been investigating a cartel ring and their connection with a delivery service. The cartel was apparently trying to open a new market to sell fentanyl. Joe was still building his case against them. Danny was brought in because they needed a closer. It was supposed to be his day off and he cancelled it to help out his nephew.
Funnily enough that wasn’t the only time the family teamed up for a case tonight. Eddie was out on patrol with her partner when they heard about an armed gunman in the nearby area.
They were the first on the scene. They saw the gunman take the woman who owns the store hostage. Before they could intervene, the gunman was taken down by a good Samaritan. The good Samaritan is Jaylen Davis. He was at the police academy. He was second in his class. He took down a gunman and no one got hurt, but somehow he’s still in trouble because Jamie had to report him.
Jamie was the first senior officer on the scene. He hugged his wife. He made sure she was okay and then he got down to business. He reminded Eddie that Jaylen wasn’t technically a cop yet.
He shouldn’t have intervened. He could get thrown out of the academy for what he did. That was a worst case scenario and Jamie still has to report Jaylen’s actions. Jamie’s wife didn’t agree with him on those actions. Jamie decided to hold off on making a report while Eddie and Jaylen get checked out at the hospital for any injuries they might have sustained when they subdued the gunman. It bought them time.
Erin meanwhile found herself in some trouble. She was contacted by a man she put behind bars. The man’s name is Del Thompson. Erin put him away for marijuana possession.
Then the laws changed. Erin didn’t think Del deserved to have a record for something that was now legal and so she helped expunged his record. She did that because she thought she was helping him build a future. He instead took advantage of that. He was accused of robbing gang members knowing that they would never report him. And he reportedly used threats as well.
Anyways, Del was now in legal trouble again. He was about to be taken to trial. The new District Attorney wasn’t considered a reformer. She wanted to take down Del and she basically ordered Erin not to intervene because she already expunged his record. Only Erin knew Del.
She reached out to him to find out what happened. Del said he ran into a few old friends. He saw that they had kids running their dope for them. He threatened them with a weapon and that’s what he was being tried for.
Del wasn’t a bad guy. He went to prison that first time because he was kid running dope for others. He didn’t wan that cycle to continue with kids now and so he tried to help them. Del was the man that Erin believed him to be. She got the charges against him dropped. She also faced an angry boss.
Crawford told Erin not to intervene in this case and she was ignored. Like she was usually ignored by Erin. Erin follows her own rules. Crawford couldn’t work with her and she couldn’t get rid of her. Erin has the highest close rates. And so the two women are just stuck together.
It almost like how Frank was stuck with Sid. Sid got into a car accident. It was revealed that Sid wasn’t living in the city anymore. He was living upstate in Duchess County. Which was eighty miles away from the city. There were rules in place that police officers have to live in the city to work in the city.
This goes for Frank’s office too. Frank visited Sid at the hospital. He asked why he moved. Sid said his mom was dying and he wanted to take care of her for final days. He didn’t want to put her in a retirement home. He also didn’t want to move her to Queens.
Sid wanted his mother’s final moments to be at the home where she raised her family. He wanted her to be comfortable and now it might cost him his job. Sid told Frank that he wasn’t going to move back to the city while his mother needed him. He left Frank in a horrible position.
Sure, there was a bill working his way through the state’s capital. It would allow officers to live outside of the city. It would allow Sid the chance to still take care of his mom and not get pushed out of a thirty year career. It also won’t matter if Frank chooses not to back the bill.
Frank was considering his options when Del did something brave/stupid. Del wanted to bring down the gangbangers using kids and so he went back to them.
He got them to admit to a crime. They knew he was trying to get evidence against him. So, they broke his phone. They didn’t know that he brought two phones just in case. Del has evidence against his former friends and he could be there at the trial if he survives the beating they gave him. Erin now has enough evidence to make a case against the men that hurt Del. And her boss was finally happy with her.
Eddie on the other hand couldn’t save Jaylen. The storeowner he saved was filing a lawsuit. She’s claiming that Jaylen injured her leg and she couldn’t return to work because of him. Nevermind that her store was failing. It wasn’t making enough money for the wife and husband team to retire.
They were looking at bankruptcy when the situation with the gunman took off. They now were suing the city to get a payday. They could ruin Jaylen life with a lawsuit. It’s a good thing that Jamie found out the woman tore her ACL three months before Jaylen tackled her.
The lawsuit was thrown out. Jaylen can still be a cop in Nassau County. Eddie called and she heard there were openings there. And so the kid will still do some good.
And Joe learned a few things from Uncle Danny. Danny got them witnessed. He helped them protect the witness and he saved Joe’s butt while doing it.
Joe learned a lot. If his father had survived, it would be the older Joe to help teach his son the ways of being a cop. But Joe’s uncles were helping him now. Frank also chose not to fire Sid. He was going to let the bill go through. The cost of living in NYC was far too high for rookies much less veteran officers.
THE END!
