CBS Confirms “S.W.A.T.” Cancellation, Series Finale Date Set

It had been teetering there for a while, but CBS finally dropped the last hammer recently by officially announcing the cancellation of the beloved crime drama show, S.W.A.T.

After months of speculation, the show will come to an end after seven seasons.

“S.W.A.T.’s” Series Finale – Date Set

S.W.A.T. fans should note that the series finale of the show has been set for Friday, May 17, airing from 8 p.m. (EST) to 9 p.m. (EST).

The show’s lead, Shemar Moore (Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson) was holding out hope that the series would continue, but things had been looking bad for a while now.

CBS tried to cancel the show last season; however, after Shemar hopped on social media, talking about his frustrations over CBS’s decision to axe the show, the cancellation was reversed less than 72 hours after the fact. S.W.A.T. was picked up for one final year, with 13 shows in Season 7. Interestingly enough, the drama continues to be one of the top-rated shows when it comes to the crime-action genre on the network.

Shemar Moore Had Hoped This Wasn’t The End

During a chat with Parade, Shemar talked about his hopes that this Season 7 wasn’t their last. Still, he states in the interview that the cast and crew approached it like, “if” this was the end, “let’s embrace it” and give them “all we got”. He goes on to say that the show deserves a good send-off. Here’s hoping that both the series and fans get just that.

During an older interview with PopCulture, before Season 6 of S.W.A.T., Moore noted that the series was “family fun”, where they get to play “super cops” and chase the bad guys down.

He adds that they’ve done shows through the years that cover a variety of important topics, from cop suicide to human trafficking, school shootings, and more.

What they don’t cover is politics or religion, and Shemar adds that when fans watch S.W.A.T., they are having a good time with a cool and fun message.
