CBS Confirms The Equalizer Is Returning For Season 5

Great news for fans of The Equalizer, as CBS just announced the primetime drama series is coming back for a fifth season. The show centers around a former CIA operative, Robyn McCall, who freelances as a “problem-solver” for clients who have no one else to turn to. The show stars Queen Latifah, who also acts as executive producer, and is based on the late ‘80s series, of the same name.

Interesting enough, with this new 2024-2025 season, Latifah’s Equalizer will surpass the number of seasons the original show had, which ran from 1984 to 1989.

Still, it will not go over in the number of episodes, as the 1980s version had 88 shows, while the current Equalizer will end up with 56 episodes when Season 4 comes to a close.

One CBS Show Still Waits In The Wings

The CBS network recently announced that it was cutting So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas from next season’s primetime schedule, but they have yet to confirm anything about NCIS: Hawai’i. As they are officially presenting their 2024-2025 schedule on Thursday, May 2, fans will likely hear about the show’s fate by that date, or beforehand.

Major Win For The Equalizer, Queen Latifah, & CBS

It’s not overly shocking that The Equalizer has been picked up for Season 5. Reports had indicated for a while now that the show would return and that the network was just ironing out contract details for the series and Queen Latifah. While it is one of the last shows to be announced by CBS for renewal, it has a strong fan base and does well in the Nielsen ratings, averaging approximately 7.89 million viewers.

Amy Reisenback, CBS Entertainment President released a statement about the show being renewed, stating that The Equalizer is stacked with “formidable characters”, “heroism”, “high stakes” and “suspense”. She adds that the network is looking forward to another “dynamic season”.
