CBS Season Renewals Status – Remaining Shows That Are Up In The Air

CBS has some challenging decisions up ahead when it comes to the next season as they have recently renewed NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, Watson, and Matlock, as well as reversing their decision to cancel S.W.A.T.

This means the network will have some hard choices to make when it comes to shows that are up in the air, and cancellation could be looming for some popular shows.

The Fate Of CBS Dramas That Have Yet To Be Determined

CBS drama series that have yet to be given the go-ahead for a new season include CSI: Vegas, So Help Me Todd, NCIS: Hawai’i, The Equalizer, and Elsbeth. This season, the network’s schedule performed well, led by Tracker, the new breakout drama starring This Is Us’s alum, Justin Hartley. All five of the above programs in limbo have ranked #22 or higher when it comes to non-sports broadcasts within current Nielsen ratings. In fact, S.W.A.T., which was canceled and then renewed, hit just below that number at #24.

Decisions regarding what will happen to these last remaining shows are expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks, as CBS is set to present its fall schedule on Thursday, May 2.

Where Do The Shows All Rank – Speculation

The Equalizer, starring Queen Latifah, who is also the executive producer of the show, is the highest-ranked show of the five in question when it comes to linear viewership, ranking #7 in non-sports broadcast series. As per Deadline, the show is expected to renew for Season 5, as Queen Latifah is currently in the final stages of negotiations with the network.

In addition, while in its first season, Elsbeth is also expected to be renewed by CBS and is one of the best-reviewed broadcast dramas in recent years. Despite being a freshman series, it has exhibited enough promise to earn a Season 2 spot.

As per Deadline, NCIS: Hawai’i has the best odds to be renewed by CBS, as well. With that being said, while it’s been a strong performer in the past, the network already has three other shows from the franchise locked in for next year. This includes the original drama (NCIS), NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Origins, as well as a Tony & Ziva spinoff, heading to Paramount+. Would another NCIS show be overkill for CBS?

Things Aren’t Looking Good For Two Shows

Deadline reports that there will be some difficult chats over NCIS: Hawai’i when it comes to a new season, as well as CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd. The latter two shows have the lowest numbers on the CBS drama ratings totem pole, placing both shows in dangerous territories.
