In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Chief Boden left the firehouse. He was promoted within the Chicago Fire Department. He was now Deputy Chief Boden.
He couldn’t stay on at Firehouse 51 because of this new promotion and so he needed to be replaced. Boden ultimately named Chief Dom Pascal as his replacement. No one at the firehouse had ever worked with Pascal before. They reached out to their friends in other firehouses They’ve heard Pascal is tough as nails.
They were also worried that he was calling them into his office one by one. Pascal seemed to like putting them on edge. He spoke to Herrman first and he asked him why he never sought a higher position within the department.
Herrman wasn’t sure if Pascal was disappointed or if he wanted to oust him. Then they got called to a massive fire before the rest of the interviews could be carried out. Pascal came with the rest of his house. His behavior at the scene proved he could be a complete bada**. He didn’t care about the flying debris or that the wind was fire itself.
He walked straight to people who needed urgent care. He didn’t seem to mind that he could get hurt and so the paramedics were already saying he lacked the fear gene.
Pascal didn’t lead from the back. He was front and center. He helped clear the victims from the building. Once the structure was cleared, they doused the place with water.
Damon was almost injured and he managed to walk away with no problem. He worried Severide for a sec. The two were half-brothers. They just met a couple of months ago. Severide easily took him under his wing. He’s showing Damon what it means to be a firefighter and he saw some of himself in the kid. He was once that cocky too.
Damon didn’t think of the danger. Or even about crapping where he eats. He has this thing for Novak and he’s been trying to get her to agree to a date.
Only Violet could tell them that dating a coworker doesn’t always work out. She had a situationship with Carver. They were supposed to sleep together and not develop feelings. Violet had dated someone else on the job that she had to watch die. She didn’t want to put herself back out there after that. Its why she agreed to the situationship. And it worked until Carver wanted something more.
Carver told Violet he was in love with her. She pushed him away. She basically told him she couldn’t give him what he needed. She ended up regretting saying that because Carver took a few weeks off right after that. He went down to Texas to see his family. Violet used that to reconsider everything.
She was finally ready to tell him that she does have feelings for when suddenly he returned with a Texan girlfriend. The new girlfriend stopped by the firehouse. She was making out with Carver during his lunch break.
Violet was left brokenhearted when she saw the two of them together. She talked to her friends about it. They tried to reassure her that this new relationship might not go anywhere.
Carver was only gone for six weeks. He couldn’t be in a serious relationship in just six weeks. Especially not after he told Violet he was in love with her. Kidd told Violet that this new relationship could burn over quickly. Ritter also said that the new girl could just be a rebound. Kidd later saw Carver with this new person.
She saw that this new girl wasn’t making Carver happy. Carver was falling back on his old ways. He started drinking heavily again and he was coming to work on barely little sleep.
Its like he met someone that brought out his worst tendencies. Carver was drowning his pain over Violet in someone he knew didn’t give a damn about him. He couldn’t talk to the new girl about his work. They had a tough call involving a child. The child name is Lena. She was a little kid. She was still seated in her booster seat when the firefighters responded to the car accident she was in.
Lena was with her two parents. The parents were both unconscious when Novak spoke to Lena. Lena was afraid of her father and she told Novak as much. She said her father drove into the wall on purpose.
Novak contacted the police once she heard that. They took a statement from Lena. They also took a statement from her mother Catherine when she woke up. Catherine was denying Lena’s story. She said her daughter was confused. She used that as an excuse for why the cops couldn’t talk to Lena again.
Only Novak knows what she heard. She saw the fear in that little girl’s eyes. She knew Lena wasn’t lying about her father. Novak went to Chief Pascal with Violet. They asked if they could check on Lena.
Pascal cleared it. He seemed like a good guy if not a taskmaster. The paramedics found Lena’s doll in the wreckage of the family car. They used the excuse of returning it to her to hear the rest of the story. Lena was staying with her Aunt Judy while her parents recovered. Judy just thought the paramedics were being kind when really they wanted more details about what happened.
Lena said that her father started speeding up. He did so while saying they should all die. Lena was so scared that she tried to fit her doll into her car seat to protect her and so she wasn’t confused.
She knew exactly what happened. It’s her mother that wants her to bury the story. Her aunt on the other hand was so horrified that she was fine with letting Lena speak to the cops. The cops now heard from both Lena and her aunt. They arrested her father in spite of him still being in the coma. And Catherine finally admitted that Lena wasn’t lying.
She said her husband wasn’t well. He was mentally ill and he just needed to get better. He almost killed the whole family and she was still carrying water for him.
The police told Catherine that she might lose custody now because she tried to cover up a crime. Either way. Lena was going to be safe. The paramedics saved the day and, while they had no grievances with the new Chief, Kidd was having a problem with the new guy.
Pascal found out Kidd was married to Severide. He was now refusing to let them work the same shift together. He said it was a matter of principle.
Pascal also told Kidd that her Girls On Fire program should take a backseat to her. Since then, Kidd has had a bad feeling about him. She wanted to know like everyone else why he came from Miami so suddenly.
It turns out Pascal was having issues with his wife and she was kissing him when she wasn’t changing the locks.
THE END!
