In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Brett was finally getting her happy ending with Casey. He proposed and she said yes. They were getting married. Brett was going to move out with the baby to be with him. It was everything she ever wanted, but there was one problem. She couldn’t find a wedding venue. Everyone had amazing ideas.

They just weren’t realistic. She couldn’t get married at Aquarium because it has a six month waiting list. She couldn’t get married at Molly’s because it was too small. Brett needed something sooner as well as something bigger. She was finally getting her dream and she wanted the wedding to be perfect.

Brett was still talking about venues when Mouch came back from a shift a changed man. Mouch had recently suffered a heart attack and so he promised himself that he was going to change. He was going to stop being Mouch. He was no longer half-man/half-couch. He wasn’t going to plop on the sofa after every call.

He was going to exercise more. He even removed his pillow saying Mouch’s spot. He told everyone that he gives up his spot. Mouch also wanted a new nickname and he was on the hunt for one.

Mouch was so busy becoming a new man that he failed to recognize Herrmann was in crisis. Herrmann was a little too close to the bomb on last week’s episode.

His ears have been ringing ever since and he’s having a hard time hearing people around him. It’s made him grouchy. Something that Ritter noticed was happening one too many times. He snuck up behind Herrmann and he figured out everything. He figured out that Herrmann couldn’t hear him. Herrmann should go to the hospital to get it checked out. And Ritter said as much.

Only Herrmann doesn’t want anyone to know he’s having a problem. He’s hiding it from everyone. His wife doesn’t know and not Mouch who was his best friend.

His wife was still recovering from cancer. Mouch was trying to get people to call him by his actual last name – McHolland. Its Scottish. It’s pronounced the way they do it over the pond and so he was going to run into problems with that stateside. He first tested it out on Cruz. Cruz was the only one that asked him why he needed a change. Mouch explained that he didn’t want his legacy to be a couch.

Mouch said things would be different if he was younger. He might have wanted to seek a promotion up the rank and file. He didn’t do that now because he felt he missed his chance. Cruz actually took inspiration from that to make his own change. Cruz was in charge for three months when Severide was gone. Things were different with Severide back. Severide was once again in charge and Cruz found working under someone else as being too stifling. He wanted to take the lieutenant’s test. He wants to run his own unit one day.

Cruz knew this would mean leaving 51 and still he went ahead with notifying Chief Boden. Cruz wanted to leave because Severide was back to treating him like nothing happened. They were on a call. There was a kid who needed to be saved because he took his father’s drone out. The kid was saved. Severide was going to leave the drone. Cruz figured he was right there and so why not get it himself. He got it. He returned it to the kid. He then got yelled at by Severide for breaking command. Cruz was left feeling very disrespected.

He was coming from that place when he talked to Mouch. He realized he couldn’t fall back into line like those three months didn’t happen. He wanted a chance to pursue a career. He got used to being in charge and he wants to return to that. Boden told him that it wouldn’t take long for him to be placed. He gave Cruz the schedule for the next lieutenant’s exam. He even gave him a list of open lieutenant’s positions nearby. Boden felt Firehouse 36 would be a great place for Cruz. All Cruz has to do is pass the test.

Boden however felt there was one more thing Cruz should do. He wanted Cruz to tell Severide about taking the test. He doesn’t have to do it. Boden just believed it was the right thing to do. Cruz and Severide are friends and the friendship shouldn’t be ruined because of their ranks. Cruz was still putting everything together as the squads all got a call. They responded to a fire at an apartment building. Herrmann almost caused a massive mistake because he couldn’t hear. Mouch stopped him and proved he was still a great firefighter.

In spite of everyone still calling him Mouch.

They saved Kylie’s life. She joined another firehouse. She was one of the few trapped and she was saved. Kidd also found someone to join her unit. His name is Gibbson. He would be a perfect fit. Kidd warned her husband as well that Cruz hasn’t been himself lately. Severide apologized to Cruz for busting his chops earlier. He was being so nice that Cruz couldn’t tell him about wanting to take the exam. But Brett chose Violet as her maid of honor. Violet has to plan the bachelorette party. She also has to deal with her crush on Carver. She wasn’t ready to put herself out there again.

And Herrmann did see a doctor. He was given hearing aides. He was also told his hearing might get worse and he’s already on the cusp of CFD requirements.

THE END!
