In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Tori was a bad influence on Carver. She was always wild. He knew that about her since they were in high school together, but he had been in a vulnerable place after ending things with Violet. He wanted someone to help him forget. Tori was that person.
She took his mind off of Violet. She was also impeding him at work. They’d get so drunk that he’d wake up at other people’s homes without any idea how he got there. It was hard for him to focus on work. He could barely do anything with the constant hangovers. He was firefighter and he wasn’t waking up in time to hear the sirens. Kidd had to shake him awake tonight.
They got called to the scene of a massive fire. This happened right after Mouch was attacked by a bird. He was just coming into work one day and a bird flew at him. He had to fight it off. Not that anyone was sympathetic. They thought he was being dramatic by using the word “attack”.
The bird was probably flying close to him because he scared it. The others were slightly mocking Mouch until they got the call to the fire and the new concern was checking the building for anyone in need. It was a storage facility. It hadn’t been open for the day. There shouldn’t have been anyone in the building and so the firefighters were surprised when they came across Ryan.
Ryan had recently been evicted. He was staying at the storage facility because it was cheap. He was hiding the fact he lived there and he may or may not have started the fire with a space heater.
Ryan had to be rushed to the hospital for injuries only Severide stayed behind to check the scene. He wanted to investigate how the fire started. The new chief left him to it. Chief Pascal was more concerned about Kidd’s team. She added someone new and he wanted to know if everyone was adjusting well to the change.
Kidd lied when she said everything was good. She noticed earlier that Carver was dragging. He wasn’t the professional he used to be. He was getting worse instead of better and so Kidd confronted him.
She told him that they were under the microscope. They couldn’t afford to have cracks. He either shaped up or shipped out. Carver promised her that he’d get better. Kidd was hoping he follow through on that. Her husband in the meantime found something at the storage facility. Someone was using one of the lockers to make ghost guns.
Ghost guns are basically guns with no way of being tracked. They didn’t have serial numbers. They can also be melted down after use. They were a problem for the Chicago Police Department.
Severide reported what he found. Captain Pascal returned to the scene. He and Severide met with state police. They said they were already investigating the matter. They didn’t want Severide to be involved any further. The state police told him to back off and Severide chose to ignore them. He went back to the scene the moment they cleared it.
Severide noticed that the staties removed something from a different unit. It wasn’t the unit with the ghost guns. It was where the fire started. Severide noticed the staties took a huge item that left free space in the unit. The firefighters also saw for themselves that the space heater didn’t start the fire.
The staties were covering up what really happened there and they threatened Pascal to get him to drop it. Pascal had some issues when he was a firefighter in Miami. The state police seem to know about them.
Severide also returned to the hospital to check on Ryan just to learn the man left. Ryan refused medical treatment. Probably because he was undocumented. He didn’t want to be found and he never gave anyone full name. He simply disappeared on them. Severide even learned that none of the state police went to check on him.
It was all too weird. Back at the firehouse, Mouch was still dealing with his bird problem. It was this one pigeon that kept attacking him when he came in. It didn’t attack anyone else. Ritter also saw how the bird aimed right for Mouch.
Mouch became so concerned for his own safety that he called for animal control. The others were against it. Tony had bird seed in his car and he wanted to lure the bird safely away from the firehouse.
Only Mouch didn’t want to wait. He didn’t want to build trust. He also thought animal control was taking too long. He put on protective gear and he took a ladder to the bird. The bird’s egg had dropped out. It hadn’t cracked. Mouch noticed it and he safely returned it to the nest. And the bird became less aggressive after that.
One problem solved.
Captain Pascal later met with State Police Captain Bishop. Bishop implied that he was dirty. He also said Severide was going to be a problem and he wanted Pascal to bench him. Pascal actually tried to do just that. He told Severide to stand down. He wouldn’t explain why. Severide came to suspect something was up.
He talked to his wife and they continued to look for Ryan. Kidd also had to bench Carver. He was screwing up on the job. He was lashing out at Ritter. Kidd basically told him to go home and to not come back until he get his head right. And he couldn’t depend on Violet anymore because she was dating someone new.
But Pascal ultimately confessed to Severide that he was working with Internal Affairs. They already had a file on Bishop and he was helping them get sold evidence. Severide wanted to help Pascal. And so Pascal told him everything.
THE END!
