In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Noah’s death was a hard blow. Noah had reminded Voight of his son. Losing Noah was like losing Justin all over again. It brought up all the worst memories and Voight didn’t know what to do with them. They were no sooner to finding a suspect.

Their serial killer has ten victims that they know about. He murders in pairs. He started killing about a year ago. He’s targeting people that are high risk and have someone they love. The killer gets off on torturing his victims before he kills them. He shows a level of sadism that Voight has never seen before. And so Voight shut himself off from the others.

Voight failed to see that Detective Upton was struggling. She had come to terms with her divorce. Only she was still struggling with everything else. She wasn’t sure if she should stay as a cop. She was doubting herself. She was constantly pushing herself to close cases.

She was even pushing herself with her workouts. It’s like she wanted to achieve the impossible. She was coming back from her morning run when she overheard about a kidnapping on her radio. She was in the area and so she responded.

There was a nine month old baby girl that was missing. Her father had his gun trained on a man he felt had taken his daughter, but the man with a gun to his face was swearing he wasn’t involved. Both men were arrested. The father was identified as Trent Howell.

He accused the other man of taking his daughter because found that man in his alley several times. He thought the guy must have been casing the house. That guy was brought to the station where he was cleared. He has an alibi. Trent was allowed to stay on his property to answer questions.

Trent was joined by his wife, Kate. They woke up to find their baby missing. Her name is Grace. Her kidnapper knew the alarm code to turn it off when they broke in and they took a diaper bag with them. They don’t seem like they intend to harm the little girl.

They even grabbed her favorite stuffed toy. Grace’s nanny was out of town. She was in Miami for a family event. Kate didn’t feel comfortable with hiring a short-term nanny because she didn’t want someone she couldn’t fully vet around her only child.

Both Trent and Kate are worth over twenty million each. They lived in a rich neighborhood. They have a cleaner as well as a nanny and they didn’t think they had enemies. There was blood found on the door when the kidnapper broke in. The blood was a match for Anthony Baker. He was a known felon. He wasn’t a sex offender thank god. Everyone assumed he took Grace for a ransom. The cops tracked down his car. He wasn’t in it. He had a baby seat in the back. Baker was actually in the nearby supermarket and unfortunately a patrol car spooked him into running.

Upton chased him down with Petrovich. Petrovich wasn’t good in the field. She accidentally let him get away. Upton couldn’t stop him because she checked on a pedestrian that Baker shot. She therefore questioned Petrovich about what happened. Petrovich tried to warn her that she wasn’t good in the field. Upton didn’t listen and now this happens. Petrovich later claimed she didn’t have a clear shot. She said a pedestrian was in the way. Upton later searched the security cameras. There was no pedestrian.

Upton did see that Baker bought formula in the supermarket. This was another good sign that Baker doesn’t mean to harm the child. He just wasn’t after a ransom either. The Howells were never contacted. Hours go by and nothing. No one seeking a ransom would wait that long to contact the parents. It would just convince the parents to seek out the cops for their help. It’s what happened with Howells. They contacted the police because there was no one threatening to kill their daughter if they speak to the cops.

Upton also realized what stuck out to her about Petrovich. Petrovich is an alcoholic. She sucks cough drops to hide the smell. Its why she’s never put her name on any cases that might go to trial. It’s also why she stays stuck to a desk. She was breaking several rules of conduct by drinking on the job. Upton threatened her with a breathalyzer and Petrovich chose to be offended that she was labeled an alcoholic. She also reminded Upton that their squad included her name in Noah’s investigation. And now they could do nothing to question Petrovich or the killer might go free.

The cops later tracked Baker to a house owned by Tammy Reed. They got a warrant. They entered her house and they found Baker had been murdered. He was lying dead on the ground. Tammy was missing, but her house was arranged for a baby. Tammy wants to keep Grace. She wanted Grace instead of having her own child because Grace belonged to Trent. Trent and Tammy had an affair a couple of years ago. Trent ended things with her. He still continued to have affairs with other women. And so Tammy could be upset because he talked her into an abortion when they were together.

Neither Trent nor his wife were home when their baby was stolen. Trent met up with a woman for drinks at a bar. His wife followed him to try and convince him to come back with her. They came back. They didn’t hear anything from Grace’s room and they figured she was still asleep. It wasn’t until they actually checked on her the next morning that they found her gone. Now Tammy has Grace. She wants to rebuild what she lost with Trent. She even had a photo of the two of them together hanging over Grace’s cot at her house.

They caught up to Tammy and Grace at the train station. Tammy couldn’t have anymore children after her abortion. She thought Grace was her last chance at being a mother. She wasn’t going to give up the baby without a fight. She pulled a gun and Petrovich killed her. Grace wasn’t harmed. She was returned to her parents.

Upton didn’t say anything about Petrovich’s drinking and Petrovich didn’t say anything about Upton’s punishing runs.

THE END!
