In tonight’s Blue Bloods episode, Intelligence lost one of their own. It was the new detective. Her name was Emily Martel. She only recently joined the unit and she was handling paperwork most of the time. She away from the action because she has a troubling past. She lost a partner on the job. She had to go to therapy.

She also couldn’t be reassigned to new unit because everyone was worried about her mental health. She got the job in Intelligence thanks to her friendship with Detective Ruzek. The two of them met at the police academy. They’ve been friends ever since. Ruzek knew his boss needed to fill Upton’s place on the team and he naturally thought of Martel.

Ruzek was probably regretting that action now that Martel has been shot. The two of them were coming back from a crime scene when they heard shots fired. They were barely out of the car when the perp began shooting at the cops. He shot Martel in the head. Ruzek managed to drag her behind the car where they were semi-covered.

He waited until his friend was put in an ambulance before he pursued the shooter. The shooter was shooting from a blue house nearby. Ruzek went there with backup. They found an entire family that had been shot.

The shooter escaped in a car. He has a toddler with him. Ruzek hoped in the closest patrol car and he and Officer Cook raced after the shooter. They didn’t want the shooter to get away.

They weren’t alone in wanting justice. When the call came in about an officer down, the whole CPD came out in full force. They went looking for the perp. They also spoke to a woman that had been shot in that house. Her name was Denise. She said it was her ex-husband that shot her and her parents. His name is Roy Darrow. He shot them so that he could steal the kids.

Roy escaped the house with the younger son, Bobby. He was naturally going to go after the older son now that he was on the run from the cops. The older kid was Nate.

He was at basketball practice. Denise begged Detective Atwater to protect her sons before she passed out from the pain. The cops looked into the perp. They found out that Roy just got out of prison. His ex-wife filed a restraining order against him. It was a domestic violence call that the detectives accidentally walked into. Roy didn’t set out to shoot cops. Not that it matters at that point.

Roy managed to evade Ruzek in the patrol car. Ruzek lost eyes on him. The cops figured out where Nate was playing basketball and so they surveilled every road leading to that location. Ruzek wasn’t looking for justice.

He wanted revenge. He knew Martel wasn’t going to survive the headwound and he wasn’t wrong. Martel later died at the hospital. Atwater was the first to hear about it. He called Voight to let him know. Voight decided to hold off on telling the others the news. He just asked Atwater to stay with Denise.

Voight also sent Torres to go pick up the older son at practice. Only Torres had been too late. Roy had already called Nate. He asked Nate to meet him. Nate has this brand new bicycle with a special license plate that says “Elvis”.

His mother is a huge fan. Nate’s friend described Nate’s bike to Torres. Torres called it in. Voight received additional backup from other departments and he warned everyone. They couldn’t just go in shooting. Roy has one of his sons with him. The other son was going to be joining them. Their safety has to take priority.

Ruzek eventually found the car that Roy was driving. Roy had stopped to get his wounds sewed up by a friend. He also told his friend that he planned on killing his children. Roy was doing that to take revenge against the ex-wife. He didn’t care about those boys. He just didn’t want their mother to get them back.

Roy told his friend everything and the friend still gave him his own car so that Roy could escape. The friend was arrested. They looked for the man’s car. They were still looking when they heard about a break in at the uncle’s.

Nate broke into his uncle’s house to steal his uncle’s gun. Nate goes shooting with his uncle. He also knew his uncle’s password to the safe. He grabbed a gun because heard about what happened to his mom.

It was all over the news as well as social media. Nate knew his father couldn’t be trusted. He armed himself to protect himself and his brother. The cops knew that Nate couldn’t get far from the uncle’s place. They searched the nearby area. They found Nate’s bike abandoned right outside of the train station.

Nate used the train to go back to the old house. The one where he lived with his dad before he went to prison. Torres caught up to Nate when he got the off the train, but Nate ran off once Torres identified himself as a cop.

Torres pursued him. He ran into Nate again. Nate turned his gun on Torres. He begged Torres to leave him alone. He said he was the only one that could save his brother. His father had already lied to him when he told Nate that he would never hurt his mom. Nate believed him until he saw the news.

The boy now knows his father was a liar. He didn’t want his dad to his hurt his brother too. Which was why he wasn’t going down easy. Nate nearly shot Torres. Torres tricked Nate into believing there was a civilian near them.

He used that chance to get the gun from Nate and he put the boy in handcuffs to stop the kid from coming to harm. It was as Nate was being escorted to the police station that he tried to warn the cops. He told Torres that his dad was crazy. His dad was going to kill everyone.

Nate was just a kid. He saw his dad as the bigger threat and by thinking that he underestimated the police. The cops eventually found Roy driving in the new car. They pushed him off the road. Officer Cook shot Roy. Ruzek got Bobby out of the backseat. Roy ended up dying in the car when it exploded. And that was that.

The day was over and they stopped Roy from killing his sons. It was as it was quiet that Ruzek was forced to finally think about Martel. And deal with his grief.

THE END!
