In tonight’s Dancing With The Stars episode, tonight was the season finale of “Dancing With the Stars”. It started off with five celebrity contestants. Two Olympians. One reality tv star. One football player. The last and youngest was an actress. They all went head to head for the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy.
Before the action could start, the judges all looked back through some of their favorite performances. Carrie Ann for one has loved Chandler all this season. Chandler and Brandon are two of the strongest dancers this season. They’ve had moments where they just shine. Chandler was the strongest on technique. She also used her acting skills to really sell her character.
For Derek, he took a shine to Joey. Joey excels at musicality. He always throws himself full into his performances and he makes his footwork look effortless. Joey and Jenna’s Tarzan performance was a personal favorite. Derek firmly believes that Joey getting better with each performance could win him the trophy this season. Ilona however was a fan favorite of Bruno’s. She was the strongest competitor they’ve ever had. She was also elegant and musical in spite of the muscles. Her commitment to her performances with Alan was always a great show for Bruno.
Bruno was also a fan of Danny’s. Danny has actually gone viral for a leg pull that was just so graceful. He and Whitney brought the energy and charisma. According to Bruno, Danny stands a great chance in the competition as long as he maintains his confidence he’s slowly been building up. The same goes for Stephen. Carrie Anne has watched him grow as a dancer all throughout the season. He and Rylee struggled at first and that’s because Stephen never had to compete to music before. He was now getting better at that thanks to the show and his Charleston was one of his best performances to date.
The cast kicked off tonight’s season finale with a group number. Even Julianne and Alfonso joined in. They all danced to Kylie Minogue’s “Holiday” and just had fun. Tied at the top was Chandler with Brandon and Joey with Jenna, but tonight’s first performances were repeats. They were all given a redemption dance. They have a second chance at performing a dance that the judges thought was their worst. Stephen and Rylee were up first with their Quick Step. They first had the dance at the start of the season and that was also the first time the judges mentioned musicality to him.
This season was Rylee’s first chance in the Finals. She and Stephen were at the bottom and so their redemption performance had to be perfect tonight and it was. They redeemed themselves tonight. The judges were all so proud of them. They gave them a score of twenty-nine tonight. This plus their previous score added up to eighty-two. Which meant for a while, they were on top of the board. The next redemption performance came from Joey and Jenna. Joey made history by being the first former Bachelor star in the Finale.
He and Jenna also received the first nines of the season. They were starting from a position of strength and so they weren’t worried when they got the Cha Cha. The first time they performed that dance they were still getting to know each other. Joey had never danced professionally before. Things were different now because he has been consistently getting better with each performance. Jenna pushed him to have a bigger finish tonight and it worked for them. They later receive three tens from the judges. Their total score was eighty-eight. They were at the top and Carrie Anne was already saying they could win it this season.
Up next was Danny and Whitney. They were given the Tango. It had been their first dance. They were still getting to know each other back then and Danny was just coming out of a football mindset. Things were different tonight. They’ve grown into partners. They were also friends. Their Tango tonight was a vast improvement over week one. There was still more he could learn, but he and Whitney earned twenty-seven points tonight. This combined with their previous points gives them a score of eighty-one.
Last season’s winners, Xochitl and Val came back. They were brought back to the present the trophy to the new champion and they threw in a dance for one last chance down memory lane. They weren’t the only ones to come back. Some of the dancers from the start of the season came back for a dance. Not Anna of course. She kinda burned those bridges before she left. Reginald meanwhile was out tonight having fun. He was sweet. He just couldn’t really dance and that went for a lot of the early eliminations.
The show relived all of those moments. They showed every elimination. It was hard rewatching it and they highlighted the end with the moment the final five told they were in the Finals. Thereby ending it on a good note. It was soon Ilona and Alan’s turn on the dance floor. Their redemption dance was the Jive. They performed that dance originally on Hair Metal night. Ilona knew that had been her worst dance. She used tonight’s performance to make it up to her partner and she was so much better tonight. She really did well. She and Alan had a score of twenty-seven tonight and eighty-four overall.
Chandler and Brandon had their redemption dance. They were given the Jive. They struggled with it as well and they were warned that they started out strong but fell apart towards the middle. They worked on that. They came back much stronger tonight. Chandler and Brandon delivered one of the best performances of the night and that was great for them because they were already at the top. They received a score of thirty tonight and that combined with their previous score brings them up to eighty-eight. They were still tied with Joey and Jenna.
Derek also danced tonight. He danced the Argentine Tango the way it was originally taught. With two men. Derek danced with his best friend Mark Ballas. The two of them have been dancing together for thirty years. Almost their whole lives. They knew the history of the Tango and put on a great show tonight. Next up was Stephen. Stephen and Rylee’s second performance was a freestyle. Stephen wanted to combine his gymnast background with dancing and he remembered to focus on the musicality.
Their second performance was much better than their first of the night. They gained a perfect score of thirty and that made their overall score a hundred-twelve. They were followed by Joey and Jenna. Their freestyle focused on combining their best performances into one unforgettable performance. Joey started the competition with imposter syndrome. He’s since worked on that. Also, he wants a trophy. He freely admits he wasn’t good enough for Wimbledon only they could bring in tennis into “Dancing With the Stars”.
Carrie Anne later said their performance was underwhelming. She felt it dipped in the middle. She got a lot of boos because of that and she still gave them a nine. They got twenty-nine for their freestyle. Their total was one hundred-seventeen. Danny went up next with Whitney. Their freestyle was based on “Barbie”. The film was a cultural reset. They made their last performance highlight the movement and they showed off several performances from the film itself. Both Danny and Whitney seemed to have a lot of fun with this one.
They earned a score of twenty-nine with their freestyle. It brought their overall score up to one hundred-ten. Ilona and Alan then had their freestyle. They chose to highlight their journey together as partners in their final performance. Ilona also wanted to show off her feminine side. She knew she was a role model for a lot of women that didn’t fit the supermodel mold and so she showed them that they can be amazing women no matter their size. And it earned them their best scores of the season.
Ilona and Alan earned thirty points with their freestyle. It brought up their overall score to a hundred-fourteen. Now the final performance of the night went to Chandler and Brandon. They were the first black performers to make it to the Finals and so Brandon wanted to celebrate that. He wanted to combine several dances into one last stellar performance. They had a little bit of everything. They showed off a wonderful culture. Brandon also pushed Chandler to her full limits and they were rewarded with a perfect score.
They earned thirty points for their freestyle. They had the most overall points with a hundred-eighteen, but America was also voting at home. Their votes along with the judges’ scores determined the winner. Danny and Whitney came in fifth. Stephen and Rylee came in fourth. Chandler and Brandon came in third. Ilona and Alan came in second.
And the winners this season are Joey and Jenna.
