Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that it’s almost time to meet the new Gabi Hernandez DiMera! The role was last played by Camila Banus, but now Cherie Jimenez is about to make her Days debut as a Gabi recast.
DOOL fans will see Jimenez’s first Gabi appearance on Thursday, June 27. Since Jimenez has been filming for seven months now, she’s no doubt eager for viewers to finally get a taste of her version of the character.
However, Jimenez made a confession on Instagram that offered more insight into how she got the job.
It turns out this isn’t the first time Jimenez has auditioned to play Gabi on Days, so she opened up about the wild casting story ahead of her first airdate.
“At 22 years old an audition for the role of Gabi on Days Of Our Lives came into my life. It was not meant for me then,” Jimenez admitted since she obviously didn’t score the part at the time.
Fortunately, the stars aligned for Cherie Jimenez when Camila Banus chose to exit the role, so she got another opportunity a decade and a half later. Sometimes timing is everything!
“Now 15 years later at 36 years old the universe told me I was now ready to step into this role…Thank you…I am just beginning,” Jimenez said.
In an interview with Soaps.com, Cherie Jimenez shared a few more details about her past audition and how this new one came to be.
Although Jimenez didn’t get the job the first time around, she admitted it was often a role she thought back on.
When Jimenez auditioned more recently, she actually didn’t realize she was auditioning for Gabi at first.
The name was disguised, so Jimenez assumed she’d be a family member for Gabi when she initially learned about the part.
Once Jimenez showed up for her screen test and learned it was actually for Gabi Hernandez DiMera, she was thrilled to have another chance at the role she previously missed out on.
“So in a roundabout way, things that are just meant for you come back around…This is a role of a lifetime. It’s a dream role,” Jimenez insisted.
