Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Dan Feuerriegel recently got honest about taking over the role of EJ DiMera and making it his own. SOD asked a group of soap stars what advice they would give to an actor playing a recast, so Feuerriegel chimed in with some excellent guidance based on his own experience.
James Scott previously played the role of EJ DiMera from 2006-2014 and grew quite popular with fans.
In fact, Scott was so popular that the show struggled to replace him in the years that followed.
There were always rumblings about the search for a new EJ since James Scott ultimately made it clear that he wasn’t interested in returning to Days.
However, it wasn’t until 2021 that Dan Feuerriegel made his debut in the role of the dashing and devious EJ DiMera.
Of course, it took a while for some Days fans to warm up to a new portrayal since change is often hard for soap viewers!
Other fans embraced Feuerriegel in the part right away and gave him a warm welcome to Salem.
Now Feuerreigel has settled into the role nicely and is busy showing off his acting chops on a daily basis.
EJ is an important character who tends to be involved in major storylines, so we’re lucky that an excellent actor like Feuerriegel ended up filling Scott’s shoes.
That brings us to Feuerriegel’s take on the whole recast situation.
Feuerriegel’s advice to other actors jumping in as a recast was simple for the most part: “Do your own thing.”
Although Feuerriegel hinted that there would always be a shadow of the previous portrayal, he argued that you had to bring your own personality and talents to the table.
“I will never be James Scott,” Feuerriegel pointed out. “He is a completely different person with completely different life experiences. He played EJ the way that he did. I’m going to play it the way I do.”
That sounds like a great way to handle it – and it’s certainly been working for Feuerreigel so far!
There are always going to be DOOL fans who prefer one EJ over the other, but Dan Feuerriegel has clearly focused on doing his own thing and being the best EJ he can possibly be.
