In tonight’s DDWTD recap, the family went skiing. Gigi was feeling a little dizzy before the vacation. She didn’t want to tell her family about it because she didn’t want to worry them and so Karen getting sick upended all of that. Karen passed out. She became the priority. She was saying her heart was beating really fast.
She needed assistance to sit up. She said she felt like she needs to go to sleep. Deon wasn’t a paramedic but even he knew that her going to sleep after passing out would be a bad thing. He kept his wife awake. They carried her to the car. They drove her to the hospital and they did an EKG.
Karen’s heart was fine. She might have gotten sick after being in a high altitude. It’s been known to happen and that’s why the paramedics weren’t worried. They ran several tests. She passed all of them. She was going to be fine. She just needed to slow down a bit. She was probably dehydrated as well.
Sometimes moms forget to take of themselves too. She needed to keep drinking water throughout the day and Deon was there to remind her. He really took care of his wife. Karen was left feeling quite pampered thanks to his love and attention.
The children also calmed down once they learn their mom was going to be fine. They saw her on the ground. It most likely scared them and it was great that Karen didn’t have to stay overnight at the hospital. She was able to return to her children. She put them at ease. They went on to continue having a great time.
Karen and Deon had butted heads earlier about a bunch of little things before her scare. None of that other stuff mattered when he saw her on the ground and so he felt the episode reminded him of how much he loves his wife.
Deon didn’t care about their argument involving the house. Or Dorian going to college. He simply cared about Karen and the two of them had a date night afterwards.
The kids were being watched by family when the couple went out for a romantic dinner. They were reconnecting and Gigi didn’t want to ruin that. Gigi waited until they were back home to tell her son about her own dizziness. She said she feels a weakness in her legs. She wasn’t in the best of health and she thinks her situation was taking a turn for the worse.
Before Gigi came clean, the family had a night out. They all went out for dinner at a restaurant. The family had looked at the menus online the night before and so they easily gave the waitress a list of what they wanted.
They also said what they love about Karen at the dinner table. She was able to reconnect with her regular doctor and she was going to be okay. Her whole family was glad about that.
Karen was the sun of their universe. She’s the one that usually finds what the kids are interested in and follows through on it so that they could explore as best they could.
The one thing Karen wasn’t prepared for was dating. She had to teach her sons about dating. Neither Karen nor Deon were supportive of a date date when the kids were so young. And all of their kids were young. They instead offered hangouts. Hangouts were with a group of kids. It was friends getting together.
Her sons may be interested in something more only they weren’t going to get it. Their parents still saw them as kids. Karen said that’s her babies. She thought they were too young to date. It was just Deon that better understood the boys’ hormones getting out of control.
Deon’s been there. He remembers what it was like to have a first crush. Its why he quickly agreed to a hangout. It was after they agreed to give the boys this that Gigi had a private word with her son.
She told him about her dizziness. She didn’t want to worry him. She wanted to wait until she made an appointment to see a doctor before she told him her fears. Gigi had a friend that once had the same dizziness she did. The friend had an MRI done and they found a tumor on the brain. And Gigi was worried about having the same thing.
Its why she kept putting off when she told her son about her condition. Gigi didn’t want to worry him, but she was scared enough that she was teaching her granddaughters how to do hair.
She was a cosmetologist for thirty-eight years. She was only teaching them to braid now because she wanted to take pressure off of Karen. Karen was the one that did all of her girls’ hair. It would take hours for one head much less several. Gigi helped out when she could. She was teaching them now so that they could hopefully do their own hair from now on.
Karen also became involved in an advocacy group. The group was called IRTH. They were combating the high mortality rate for black mothers and children. It was a very large number compared to white woman.
Karen became involved in this group because she’s been dismissed by doctors as well as family. She was constantly told to pray over a loss pregnancy. She’s lost seven children. It was never easy to recover and she struggled with moving on without her children. She remembers them all.
Karen helped a lot of women by speaking at an event for the group. Afterwards, she joined the rest of the family. They went on the hangout with the boys. They went to a skating ring.
Most of the boys ended up holding a girl’s hand by the end of it. It was just Denver that needed encouragement to go after his crush. He was a little nervous about speaking to a girl named Halo. And luckily that fear went out the second he was able to break the ice with her.
