In tonight’s FBI International episode, Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell was new to the fly team. His transfer just came through. He was Forrester’s replacement. Although, he wanted to be a little more permanent than the other guy that tried to fill Forrester’s shoes.
He at least wanted to get to know everyone. He also allowed the dog back into the office again. Wes loves animals and the dog was a member of the team. Wes was getting to know everyone when the first case of his new career popped up. The FBI fly team were called in when an American ambassador was taken hostage.
Ambassador Coates was doing an interview in the Netherlands when gunmen barged in. This group of armed men took everyone hostage and they were threatening to kill people if their demands weren’t met. Their demands were far-fetched. They wanted forty million euros.
They even demanded a helicopter to transport them away from the studio. It was ridiculous. They were never going to get those things. It also didn’t help that everyone was fighting about jurisdiction. Wes was fighting with the Diplomatic Protection Service on who should run point.
The local police also wanted a part of this. Wes had to pull rank with everyone. He was willing to work with them only they had to secure the safety of the hostages. The hostages were the priority.
The gunmen had their faces covered and they wore all black. One of them messed up. He didn’t remove the serial number on his boots. The FBI were able to identify him because of it. His name was Frank Bergkamp. He was the number two to a Dutch crime boss. His boss was Clemens Anholts. Anholts was in prison.
The man killed his American girlfriend. He was about to be extradited to the United States to face murder charges. Ambassador Coates was actually in charge of that extradition and so him becoming hostage was the real plan.
Bergkamp as well as his boss wanted to stop the extradition. The fly team couldn’t see how they were going to stop the extradition by taking people hostage. It’s not like they asked for Anholts to be released. They were asking for money. They were asking for a helicopter. No one saw what Anholts was planning.
Only they couldn’t wait for Anholts or Bergkamp to slip up. The hostages were freaking out. The armed men started shooting to assert dominance and one woman almost got away from them.
The whole situation was getting out of hand. Wes authorized an extraction team to go in. The other government officials allowed it because Wes was willing to take full accountability for whatever happened next. They used thermal imaging cameras to help Smitty, Raines, and Vo free the hostages. And the armed men were arrested.
There was just one problem. The armed men gave up without a fight. They were on the computer when the Americans arrived and so the ambassador revealed what happened.
He said he gave them access to his phone. There was a witness against Anholts. The witness was being hidden at a secret location in the Netherlands. Anholts’s people grabbed the ambassador so that they could get to the witness. It was never about the money. That was merely a red herring. They wanted the witness because she’s the whole case against Anholts.
The witness was Mila Meyer. She was fourteen. Her dad OD. Her mother was in prison. She’s been in and out of group homes until she ran away one day.
She was in the alleyway behind a nightclub when she witnessed Anholts beat his girlfriend to death. Since then, she’s been a key witness in the case against him. Wes got her location from the Dutch. He arrived just in time to save her from being assassinated. Her protection detail were all killed. Wes got her out of the building and they were on the train when the second assassin showed up.
Wes gave Mila his phone. He told her to run away. She refused to leave him. Wes managed to fight off the assassin and he went on the run with Mila. Wes suspected that Anholts had men within the Dutch police department.
He wasn’t going to bring Mila to them. He was hiding out with her and his team were doing their best to buy him time. The Dutch were breathing down their necks. They got the American Department of Defense involved. Wes’s plan to deal with them was to get a confession from Anholts.
They thought they could play him. He proved to be too smart for that. Anholts refused to confess. He still thinks his people will kill Mila for him and so the only way forward was to get Wes and Mila out of the country.
Wes was using a burner phone to stay in contact with the fly team. He also broke into a house so that he could treat his injuries he got from the train fight. The homeowner was there. She called the cops. The address went over the scanner and so the assassin found them. And he tried to kill Mila again.
Wes tried to fight the guy himself. He just wasn’t in any kind of condition to do it alone. Mila helped. Her distracting the assassin gave Wes time to kill the guy. Then the fly team showed up.
They got Wes and Mila out of there. Wes finally got treated for his injuries. Mila was going to enter Witness Protection in the United States during the duration of the trial. Once she was done testifying, she was going to go live with her cousins in Minnesota. She can start over there.
And naturally Anholts got extradited kicking and screaming.
THE END!
