In tonight’s FBI Most Wanted, FBI Special Agent Sheryll Barnes was adjusting to her new life. She split with her wife. The ex-wife also moved to a different state and she had taken their kids with her, but Barnes didn’t fight her on that decision. Barnes’s career requires a lot of traveling.

She rarely gets time off. Her kids would have been stuck with a nanny for most of the time if they stayed in New York with her.

She had to think about the kids’ welfare and they were better off with Charlotte. Barness still facetimes with the kids every night. She reads them stories. She was still their mother. She also visited them a lot when she got injured on the job.

She’s back at work now. Her leg has healed. Then Barnes got the weirdest call. She received a clear scammer call from someone pretending to be with the IRS.

Barnes called it out as a scam. She said she was an FBI Agent and that’s when the girl on the other end asked for help. She said her name is Jessie. She was seventeen. She was being held against her will. She wasn’t allowed to leave or quit.

She didn’t know the names of the people forcing them to scam people. They went by nicknames of “C” and “D”. They also prevented the phones lines from calling 911.

Barnes tried getting some details from Jessie. She was asking if she knew where she was. Or had a clue on how she got there. Jessie was constantly being watched and so she had to hang up. Barnes knew that Jessie was telling her the truth. She heard it in Jessie’s voice.

She had been scared. Barnes wanted to find her and rescue her. She just couldn’t get her boss to sign off on it. Remy told her to kick the case to Jubal. He reminded Barnes that they were a taskforce. They hunt people who cross state lines. Jessie never said that had been her situation.

In NYC, these cases get investigated by the field office there. Barnes knew that and she still couldn’t let this case go. She talked to Hana about it. Hana went rouge with her. They traced the VPN used to hide Jessie’s location to a man named Howard Merger.

He was washing the blood off his clothes when the FBI stopped by. Merger was smart though. He refused to talk without a lawyer. Barnes and Hana were lucky in that they didn’t need him to cooperate. They followed his movements. They found out he threw the body of Cesar Hernandez in a trash can.

They also connected him to Denny and Carson Cobb. They were “D” and “C”. They were a married couple. They set up a fake company to force people to work for them.

Once Barnes found Cesar’s body, she had to call it in to Remy. Remy was furious she didn’t kick the case to Jubal. He yelled at both her and Hana.

Then he took the case. Cesar was eighteen when they slit his throat. He moved to NYC to become an actor. He disappeared six months ago and that same could be said for Jessie. Hana looked into any seventeen year old girls known as Jessie that have gone missing. And she found her.

Her real name is Jessica Davis. She was in foster care. She lived at a group shelter. She disappeared with a friend of hers when they applied for a job at Crest Shares Management. They thought they were getting a job at a toothpaste company.

Jessie later called Barnes again and she was angry at herself for not spotting the company was a fake. She kicked herself for not realizing that an interview at eight at night was sketchy. She couldn’t give Barnes much information because she was still being watched, but the call reassured Barnes that the girl was still alive.

The feds came close to arresting Carson Cobb. He managed to evade them only they know now where he was going to make fake merch for his fake company. Merger still wasn’t talking. They checked Merger’s computers. It was heavily encrypted. It was too much for Hana.

Which is saying a lot. She got lucky when someone else hacked Merger’s computer. The son of a man he scammed went looking for him. He sent Merger’s death threats. He hacked Merger’s computer. It was mostly encrypted and he couldn’t use what he found and that was fine because Hana cracked it.

Hana used the files to determine that the teens were being smuggled across state lines. They were being taken to New Jersey by blindfold. They found the Cobbs’ car and EZ Pass. They knew the kids were being taken to Newark. Jessie called Barnes again.

She said that the Cobbs knew there was a mole. They started beating people up to try and force the mole into coming clean. Jessie begged Barnes to come rescue them. She hung up when her friend Shandy realized that she was the mole. Shandy was the one that got Jessie into this mess.

Jessie went with Shandy to her interview to be supportive. The both of them got grabbed because the Cobbs didn’t want to leave a witness. Shandy believed that if she made their kidnappers enough money that they would let them go. Jessie was smart enough to realize that was never going to happen.

The Cobbs were going to use them until they were forced to kill them. They eventually worked their beatings up to Shandy. Jessie was watching her friend get tortured and she cracked. She admitted she was the mole.

The FBI were in the neighborhood. They were looking for the Cobbs and the children they abducted. They found the building. There were surveillance cameras everywhere. The Cobbs saw them coming. They should have run right then. They were too busy trying to get answers out of Jessie.

They even shot Shandy to prove a point and that’s when they ran. The feds saw them trying to leave. Both the Cobbs were killed in a shootout. Shandy was put in an ambulance to get treated. Jessie was saved and Barnes couldn’t regret going rouge for her.

Remy later reminded Barnes that this wasn’t the first time they locked horns. He said that if it happens again, she’s off the team. He was still her boss. He chooses what case they investigate. She doesn’t go behind his back again or they’re done.

He knew that the real reason she took Jessie’s case to heart was the fact that she was making peace with living alone. She saw a girl in trouble. It reminded her that she couldn’t be there for her own daughter and that’s why she was willing to throw her career away by rescuing Jessie.

Still, this case was her final warning.

THE END!
