In tonight’s Fire Country episode, Jake hasn’t been the same since Cara died. It’s been a month since she died. Jake hasn’t taken any time off. He’s not healing. He was even blowing off Genieve. Genieve was staying with the Leones. They were appointed her custodial guardians.
It technically didn’t matter about a DNA test. They were her grandparents now and they were taking to it like a duck to water. They really enjoyed having a kid in the house. They were helping her with her science fair project. The same one that Jake promised to help her with. And so Genieve told them that they can tell Jake to forget it if he wasn’t going to help.
Sharon and Vince were wondering what to do about Jake when they heard about the call. Some drug dealer threw his ill-gotten cash out of a helicopter. He was trying to run from the Sheriff’s department. He thought that by getting rid of the cash that he could claim he was innocent and funnily enough the cash was returned.
It fell out right on top of a depleted fire. Three Rock were on the scene. They got to enjoy a rain of money or they did until they had to return what they collected to Sharon. Who then returned it to the Sheriff’s department.
Mickey works at the Sheriff’s department. She was also Sharon’s stepsister. Their parents got married when they were small and the family life ended with Mickey’s father going away for drug dealing. Fast-forward a few years later. Mickey was the one to arrest Bode the first time.
Sharon never forgave Mickey for that. She said a lot of things she didn’t mean. She had to apologize when she went to return to her at the sheriff’s office. She went to return the money. She figured she owned Mickey an apology as well and Mickey refused to accept it.
Mickey had apparently called Sharon a month ago. Sharon never returned the call. The two also had to work together when they later learned that a prisoner from Three Rock had escaped.
The escapee was Rudy. Rudy was last seen talking to Bode. Mickey asked Bode about it. Bode explained that they were just talking about being a dad behind bars. Which gave Mickey another reason to be mad at Sharon. No one told Mickey that Bode has a kid. Or that Sharon currently has custody of that kid. Mickey was very upset with her sister.
Well, the escaped prisoners changed things. The firefighters assisted the cops in a search party. They all went looking for Rudy and Mickey was assigned to ride with Sharon. They got to talking in the car. Sharon admitted that she felt silently judged by Mickey. Mickey was always the good one.
She’s the one that raised her child right and Sharon felt Mickey judged her for how Bode turned out. Mickey replied that her own daughter Sky wasn’t perfect. Sky was in rehab. Its why Mickey called Sharon a month ago. She had to put her daughter in rehab because she’s an addict.
Like Bode. Mickey did judge Sharon. She finally confessed to that. She raised her daughter thinking she wouldn’t follow Sharon’s example and her daughter nearly destroys her scholarship at college by buying drugs. Sky knows about Mickey’s father. She knows that Mickey hates all drug usage because she felt it ruined her life.
Sky ignored all of that to get high. Mickey called her sister a month ago because she wanted to know what to do now and she thought Sharon might be her sister again now that she needs her.
Sharon ignored Mickey’s call earlier. She admitted to it. Things were different now. She now sees that her sister needs her. She refused to leave Mickey’s side even when they found two men shot by the side of the road. They were both with the Sheriff’s department. One was the Sheriff himself.
The other was Lieutenant Kubiak. Kubiak was shot in the arm. He told Mickey and Sharon that Rudy got Sheriff Watkins’s gun away from him and shot them both. This stopped being a search for an escapee. It became a manhunt. The FBI was called in.
There was little chance that Rudy would be brought in alive. It just didn’t seem fair to Bode. Bode knew that Rudy escaped because he wanted to see his kid for the last time.
He was dying. He’s been battling cancer on and off for years. It finally spread to other places. It was terminal and he wanted to see his son before he died. Bode couldn’t fault him for that. He also returned four grand that he kept when the drug dealer released the money into the air. Bode gave the money to his mom so that she could give it to Aunt Mickey.
Mickey figured out something when the money was returned. She realized that Kubiak knew how much was thrown out the window before they tallied it. She also realized that Kubiak killed their boss. He must have been on the drug dealer’s payroll. The Sheriff had suspected as much.
He was going to call in Internal Affairs. He warned Mickey about it. He must have given Kubiak a heads up as well. Mickey put everything together and it could be too late. Kubiak checked himself out of the hospital. He stopped by Three Rock because Bode believed he knew where Rudy was hiding.
Bode didn’t understand the danger he put himself or Rudy in until Kubiak brought him to the scene. He brought him to this place where they used to get drunk as kids.
The prisoners spotted it when they were working one day. Rudy once said that was a perfect place to hide. He remembered that when he escaped. Kubiak was going to kill both men when Bode called his mom on his secret phone. He got Kubiak to confess to murdering the sheriff. He also started a fire that caused enough of a distraction that Mickey arrived in time with Sharon.
Mickey arrested Kubiak. Bode convinced Rudy to return with him to Three Rock. Mickey was going to put in a good word for Bode with the corrections office. And later they learned that Genieve was not Bode’s biological daughter, but Mickey reminded them that they were still a family even without DNA.
The Leones were going to keep Genieve and be her family.
They even got Jake to stop ignoring her.
