In tonight’s Fire Country episode, the heatwave had hit Edgewater like a brick. It pushed Vince to his limit. He was already in a bad mood because he felt CalFire was trying to push him out the door.
They sent him some paperwork. It stated he qualified for early retirement because of his heart problems and he thought that was an insult. He was Leone.
They stayed on the job until they physically couldn’t anymore. He tried complaining about the notice with Sharon only she wasn’t sympathetic. She also received a similar notice when she was recovering from her kidney transplant. She tried to tell Vince that it was just a formality. And he was still being grumpy about it.
Bode didn’t notice because he was already dealing with Jake. Jake was also in a bad mood. He had a talk with Genieve that morning. She basically told him that she wants to go live in Idaho with her biological dad.
Rick has his life together. He was married. He has other children. Genieve was getting to know them through Facetime and it made her realize that she can have a family.
She never really had that because she was always lied to. Her biological grandparents raised her as their child until they died. She then moved in with her sister that turned out to be her actual mom. Then Cara died too.
Genieve has been looking for a place to belong ever since. She thought it was with Jake. Jake had loved Cara like she did. He was set on becoming her stepdad if her mom hadn’t died and the two of them were close. It just didn’t change the fact that she does have family out there. They want her.
She can start over somewhere new. She could even be homeschooled because her stepmom homeschools her siblings and has the experience. Genieve liked the idea of living with them. She talked to Jake about it.
He later refused her request automatically. He wasn’t going to let her move to a different state without him. Especially not with strangers. Jake’s only history with Rick was Rick being a drug dealer. He wasn’t going to let a man like that take custody of his child. Because that’s how Jake sees Genieve. She’s his kid.
He wants to keep her. Its why he fought for her when Bode tried to take custody. Now Genieve wants to leave him. Jake couldn’t let her go and he also couldn’t get mad at her for wanting to be like everyone else. And so he made that Bode’s problem.
Jake was horrible to Bode. He found every way to demean him. Bode was in Phase Two of his training. He had his first ride-along. He wanted to help and Jake constantly found a way to put him down. Even when a building lost electricity.
Jake had Bode roping off the elevator area with yellow tape. The elevator was stuck between floors. There were people still inside. They were trying to rescue them when the elevator fell a few more floors. Gabriela was trapped inside with her dad and a couple that were getting divorced.
The couple bickering gave Gabriela the excuse of not talking to her dad. She’s been avoiding him for days. She wouldn’t return his calls or visit him at Three Rock. Manny has no idea what’s wrong. Gabriela didn’t want to tell him her problems. She needed a new place to live after she broke up with Diego.
She also had to come up with eight thousand dollars to pay for the wedding that never was. She was drowning in debt and she couldn’t get a loan because Manny ruined her credit score. To be frank, Gabriela wasn’t doing well. It also made it worse for herself because she doesn’t know how to ask for help.
Jake has that problem too. He was so busy lashing out at Bode that he refused help. His people were trapped in an elevator and its crazy he didn’t want the extra manpower. Vince had to remind Jake that whatever his problem was – it wasn’t Bode’s fault. Jake then agreed to let Bode help him.
Theys scaled down the elevator shaft. They were desperately needed because Manny passed out from the heat. Heatstroke was a serious thing. Back at the firehouse, Cole also caught a case of it. He had to be revived and taken to the hospital. Bode and Jake meanwhile got to everyone in the elevator and rescued them.
Manny got the much-needed electrolytes. Jake made sure he was the last one that left the elevator shaft. Bode was the one that kept Jake alive because that’s when the elevator shaft fell and Jake would have died if Bode didn’t have the strength to hold onto him. It turns out Vince was right. Bode was an asset.
He was also a good friend. Jake forgot that part because he was scared. He thought he was losing his daughter and he didn’t know how to fight for her. Manny himself never got a chance to speak openly with Gabriela. He had to return to Three Rock. She went back to avoiding her problems.
Jake later apologized to Bode. He saw with time that Genieve made a strong case. She deserves a chance to get to know her family and so he was going to agree she could spend the rest of the semester in Idaho.
He broke the news with a movie marathon. Bode was invited, but he first needed an ice bath. Gabriela had the same idea and so they shared a bath together. One thing led to another and they slept together. Bode didn’t return home that night or got the chance to tell his parents that he passed Phase Two.
Bode got to miss out on a lot of worrying. His mom was feeling heat cramps all day. Sharon looked up what could be the cause. It could be nothing or it could be her body rejecting the kidney transplant.
THE END!
