General Hospital Recap: Thursday, January 4 – Esme Party Trap – Sonny Slams Door on Nina – Cyrus Beaten Unconscious

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Thursday, January 4, reveals that Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) surprised Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) with a flower and doughnuts, so they had a private New Year’s Eve celebration in her office.

After Portia expressed excitement over Curtis’ upcoming procedure, he worried about what would happen if it didn’t work.

Portia assured Curtis that she’d love him no matter what and said he still swept her off her feet every day.

In the backroom of the gallery, Ava Jerome (Maura West) balked at the idea of working with Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss), so he moved in close and wondered if she feared she’d be unable to resist him.

Ava urged Nikolas not to flatter himself and wondered if Nik planned to cause Esme Prince’s (Avery Pohl) demise, but he swore he planned to get rid of her another way.

For Ava’s part in this, Nikolas needed her to find a reason to throw a party and put Esme on the guest list.

At Café Cherie, Laura Collins (Genie Francis) was concerned about a call from Ace Cassadine’s (Jay and Joey Clay) babysitter since Esme was already an hour late.

Outside, Esme muttered to herself about needing a drink and walked in the door, which led to her awkwardly encountering Laura and Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom).

After Esme spoke to the babysitter and said she’d be home soon, Laura thought it all sounded like a case of miscommunication.

However, the night took another interesting turn when Esme mentioned only having one of her gloves. Laura knew where Esme lost the other one and called her out over the Wyndemere break-in.

Esme admitted she was indeed there to try and jog her memory, but she claimed it didn’t work.

Laura accepted Esme’s explanation about having a rough night and wished that Esme had talked to her.

Esme said she’d pay for the broken glass, but Laura insisted she needed to turn herself in and take responsibility.

Although Esme worried about getting arrested, Laura said she’d make bail quickly and would probably just get community service and a fine.

Laura offered to go with Esme to the PCPD in the morning and assured her that she wouldn’t have to face this alone.

At the church, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) found a distraught Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and assumed Nina Corinthos (Cynthia Watros) unburdened herself about all the SEC drama.

It seemed like Cyrus was gloating about being Nina’s confidant, so Sonny beat him up and kept pushing Cyrus to fight back.

Once Cyrus was rushed to GH, Curtis got in touch with Laura and summoned her over her brother’s ordeal.

Laura headed to the hospital with Kevin and found out that Cyrus still hadn’t regained consciousness, so she was left wondering who did this to him.

At Sonny’s penthouse, he sulked alone with bloody knuckles and stared a bottle of booze.

When Ava came in and found Sonny sitting in the dark, she asked where Nina was.

Sonny coldly insisted Nina was gone, so Ava got the picture and urged Sonny to go clean his wounds since Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) couldn’t see him like this.

At Carly Spencer’s (Laura Wright) place, she let Nina in and agreed to hear her out while Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) handled an urgent phone call.

Nina started babbling about how angry she’d been before ultimately blurting out that she turned Drew and Carly in for insider trading.

Carly flew into a rage, so Nina pointed out that she knew Carly would never forgive her. This confession was just about setting the record straight – at least according to Nina.

Carly realized Nina got busted, so she felt this was about trying to keep Sonny and called Nina the most selfish woman she ever met.

After Carly fumed over Drew almost losing his life in prison, she called Nina “a selfish bitch” and wanted her to “rot in hell.”

Carly warned that Sonny would never forgive Nina before Drew returned and got updates on Nina’s actions.

Furious Drew wondered what he was supposed to do since he couldn’t grab and hit Nina like he would if she were a man.

Drew made it clear that Nina’s grandkids would find out how vile she was and acted like she was incapable of parental love.

Nina was outraged, but Carly said she couldn’t handle this tonight since Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zemand) just passed away.

Although Nina was apologetic and pointed out that she didn’t know, Carly ordered her to get out of her house.

Once Nina was gone, Carly cried to Drew about how unfair it was for Nina to exist in a world where Bobbie no longer did.

On the pier, Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) blew up at Michael for blackmailing Nina instead of just coming to her if he was so concerned about Nina’s access to her and the kids.

Willow acknowledged that she hid her cancer diagnosis and that Michael kept Nina’s secret, so she wondered what kind of marriage they really had.

Michael insisted they could work through this, but Willow told him to sleep somewhere else tonight and left him to answer Drew’s phone call alone.

At the dorm, Josslyn Jacks (temporarily played by Courtney Fulk) and Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) returned following a New Year’s Eve bash with some of Joss’ friends.

Adam Wright (Joshua Benard) staggered up to the door thinking it was his own room, so Josslyn realized he was drunk.

After Adam said his parents found out about his internship lie, the admitted they knew why he didn’t come home for the holidays.

Adam’s mom and dad weren’t happy about his grades, so they were threatening to pull him out of PCU and send him to a local college instead.

After Drew called Josslyn and summoned her for a conversation with Carly, Dex gave Adam a pep talk and let him sleep in Josslyn’s bed.

Once Michael and Josslyn made it to Carly’s place, she delivered the news of Bobbie’s passing.

Carly assured Josslyn and Michael that they’d get through this together as they all shared a sad group hug.

Back at Sonny’s penthouse, Nina showed up wanting to speak with Sonny, but Ava clearly didn’t think that was a good idea right now.

Sonny walked over and glared at Nina, who had tears streaming down her face as he slammed the door on her.

General Hospital spoilers say Nina and Sonny have a long way to go on the path to reconciliation, so stay tuned.
